So, I wasn't sure if this qualified as a fan fiction or an original fiction, so I left out the prefix. This is not based off any anime or anything, it's just purely a fiction story I'm working on. I would honestly love feedback, I want to know if people think this could actually be a potential story. Though I understand, you'll probably need more than one chapter. With time, I'll post more. ^_^ So, here we go.
Naomi gazed out the windows and watched as a blue jay fluttered to her nest, holding a silvery piece of material in her beak. Maybe it was a candy wrapper? Or maybe it was a piece of aluminum foil that a student had wrapped around their soda can to keep it chilled? Either way, it was definitely litter that someone carelessly dropped on the ground. The blue jay then continued to weave the piece of garbage into her nest, making it one step closer to completion. How long has she worked to make her nest so big, especially when she can only collect one or two twigs at a time?
Naomi finally turned her gaze back to the chalkboard at the front of the room and realized she must have been staring at the blue jay for at least ten minutes. The teacher had already moved on to discussing the next chapter for their calculus homework. Naomi frowned into her notes. This was Naomi’s least favorite class of the day. She understood math about as much as she understood how to fly a rocket to the moon. It’s no wonder she was so distracted by the blue jay, even though the bird was not doing anything particularly interesting. However, during these 45 minutes of the day Naomi would rather watch a blade of grass grow than learn the proper way to find the derivative of a function.
Despite her desire to slam the book closed and bolt from the room, Naomi began focusing on the words the teacher was writing on the board. She sighed at the 20 minutes left on the clock, and scribbled down more notes in her binder. Calculus was particularly straining today because she turned 18 tomorrow. Her thoughts kept drifting to how she and her friends would celebrate, barely noticing the words flowing from her pen.
Ever since she turned 15, Naomi thought about the day she would finally become a legal adult. She thought her destiny would become clear to her, and her life would become easier; that all the answers would fall in her lap. Even though it was a childish hope, she couldn’t help but feel that way. But even with the anticipated day fast approaching, she felt no change in her soul; no sudden burst of enlightenment that filled her very being. It felt as though it would pass as just another year to bring her one step closer to death.
While her mind was wrapped in such thoughts, the sound of the bell chiming out the end of second period brought her back to reality. Without missing a beat she shoved her notes into her bag and scurried from the classroom. Once outside in the hallway, she gave a satisfied sound of relief.
“Mimi!” a voice rang from down the hall. Without looking, Naomi knew it was Hannah who had yelled, because only she called Naomi by the name of Mimi.
Hannah was an energetic girl, with long auburn waves that framed her sun-kissed face. She was of a much taller stature than Naomi at a height of five foot and ten inches, while Naomi only stood at a whopping five foot and two inches. Her body had the sleekness of an athlete from years of running, but she still managed to have all the curves of a woman in all the right places. She was beautiful, yet had the wit and optimism of a much older soul, which was one of the main reasons Naomi was so drawn to her friendship. The two had met on the cross country team 4 years ago, and had become close since then. Naomi had finally quit the team last year, while Hannah remained, leaving Naomi feeling guilty for abandoning her friend. To increase her guilt, Hannah constantly pleaded with her, begging her to reconsider being on the cross country team, but Naomi felt much too overwhelmed with her senior year responsibilities to join it again.
With a small trace of guilt in her heart at the thought of Hannah trying to persuade her again, she slowed her pace and waited for Hannah, who quickly caught her by the elbow and greeted her with a smile.
“How’d your favorite class go?” Hannah asked, mockingly.
“Oh, I loved it. I think I’m going to go home and devote the rest of my night to doing extra calculus homework because I can’t get enough of it,” Naomi replied, equally mockingly.
“Heh, well at least you’re one day closer to being done with the class. You survived yet again!” Hannah exclaimed, laughing all the while. “But hey! Enough talk about class, you’re still having that party this weekend, right?”
“Yeah, of course. Even though I can’t have the party on my birthday, I still want to have one,” Naomi excitedly replied.
“Well, I was wondering if I could bring someone along with me,” Hannah looked away, with a slight blush coloring her cheeks.
Catching on, Naomi teased, “Oh! You want to bring your boy wonder to the party!” Hannah’s blush got deeper, but Naomi continued, “That’s fine by me, I’ve wanted to meet him anyway. He won’t be able to spend the night, but he can probably come over for a few hours. Just don’t let the hanky panky get too out of control.” Naomi burst out laughing, and Hannah couldn’t resist the sound and joined in with her own laughter.
“Thanks, Mimi! I’m sure you guys will like him, he’s a really sweet guy,” Hannah giggled, then continued, “And we’ll try to keep our hormones in check, but I can’t make any promises.” The two began laughing again as they made their way down the hall.
At Hannah’s locker the two had to part ways for class, so Naomi turned to leave. With a sudden jolt of energy, Hannah’s face changed as though she remembered something, “Oh! And I have this game I heard about that I thought could be fun to play at your party! I’ll have to tell you about it later, though I may wait until the day of the party to surprise you all with it.”
With her interest now piqued, Naomi turned back around to question Hannah, “Game? What kind of game?” Hannah only responded with a knowing chuckle and bounced off to her next class, leaving Naomi with a wave of her hand. Naomi’s face hinted at a trace of annoyance, but more than anything she was curious, and Hannah knew exactly how to spur that curiosity.
She walked on to her next class, with her head full of wonder. When she got to history, the teacher decided to surprise them with a pop quiz, quickly driving the thoughts of her party and Hannah’s comment to the back of her mind. Luckily for Naomi, she had read the chapter assigned to them last night, but had almost opted against doing so.
Being one of the first ones done with the quiz, she turned it over to the teacher and returned to her seat, waiting for the rest of the class to finish. History was not one of her strongest subjects, but it was also not one of her worst. She fared far better in history than calculus, that was for sure. Though she knew there was no subject she was as inept in as calculus.
By the end of the class she had gained another night’s worth of homework and a study guide for the test on Friday. It seemed to her that teachers get great thrills in starting a student’s weekend off with a test. But even so, Naomi wasn’t as downtrodden as the other students, because she had a party to look forward to, after all. With the thought of the party on her mind she remembered Hannah’s comment on having a game, and began to wonder once again about it. Well, whatever she has in mind is sure to be fun, she’s not the kind to be easily entertained, thought Naomi cheerily.
Thoughts? Be totally honest.

Prologue
How could this happen? Wasn’t it all just a game? Sure, Naomi had heard stories of those who played the game before her and her friends, but they couldn’t possibly have been true. People have a tendency to be played a fool by their imagination, so none of this can be real. But if that was true, then how can she explain the events that occurred at her birthday party?Chapter One
It’s as though time decides to move in reverse as soon as students step through the front doors of Oakfield High School. Even Father Time must know that if he were to enter a school building he would get caught in that never-ending state of lethargy. One student in particular was suffering silently, waiting for the bell to release her from something as mundane as class.
