I understand the the media consists of journalist who consider is their life's calling to bring stories from across the world to us... as horrifying and terrible the news might be... but why?
Why is it necessary to know of the boston bombings, see a video of a woman being beaten by a rubber hammer, see a video of a Mozambican being dragged behind a police vehicle in front of a helpless crowd of people, a video of miners being shot as they run at police with Machetes in hand, with the police not calling out a cease fire when they started running away, of rape, of murder, of all that can be considered the devil's work by countless religions and as a side effect of life by other...
I live in South Africa that never ceases to shock me with a more horrifying story at least once a week, if you take the stories the media deem unworthy of a headline into consideration it is every day...
Once in a blue moon there would be a story of some child who survived this or that, of some animal who is treated better than a person in another part of the world, possibly even right next door... and this is supposed to be the good in the world?
What is the purpose of the media? is it to simply send everyone into the abyss of numbing to the horrors of the world or is it to enlighten us of all the good and evil? as horrifying as it may sound to be enlightened in the presence of the overpowering force of the media...
Sorry for rambling... here are some of the sweet stories that prompted me to ask; why does anyone need to know this?
