Kaguya would need a body. My guess is that the masked entity, is kaguya, who embodies the tree at the moment.
Since almost everyone has been connected now, it no longer needed yamoto, and dumped him. Now i bet the spiralled entity will wait until the fruit is produced. Its moving forward as though there is a plan in place, and it seems to be aware of a next step.
