well okay.. Shikamaru definitely had some sad and emotional moments. The "almost deaths" were sad too though lol
im talking about when Sasuke almost died vs Haku.. and when Neji and Choji almost died vs the sound ninja. Shikamaru's scenes after failing to bring Sasuke back was also extremely sad lol and when Sasuke was sitting in the tree talking to Kakashi after he fought Naruto at the hospital was pretty sad to me as well. Lol

Neji? His death was so random and pointless i don't even consider it canon.
I believe that was a bunshin of some sort or something and that he escaped somehow only to be trapped inside IT. He was hiding to give everyone a surprise but right now he can't.
