So I had watched the Naruto series when I was younger and I never finished it. I am older now and decided to finish what I started. I am now on episode 143 and am realizing that Naruto is one of the best things I've seen. But, my question is should I read the manga? If so should i start reading it now or finish the Naruto series then read it?

watch naruto, then naruto shippuden and when it's finished read the manga.

don't use the base before you finished. we have a lot of spoilers

If I were you I would read the manga. You'll catch up a lot quicker, no fillers, and by watching only the anime you'll never catch up with the story because the manga is always ahead. It's also more useful when it comes to debates here on the forum because Kishi writes the manga directly.

In the end it's up to you. I personally enjoy both, but in reading the manga you learn to appreciate the anime much more.

Its obvious he isn't even done with Part 1 of Naruto, and your ruining it for him, by telling him events that happen later on in the series....
