I was just thinking, since we know spiral zetsu 'merged' with Obito before he came out of the hideout, and Obito has been with the spiral mask since his first appearance with Deidara until when he got (back) the Rinnegan and the mask took a new pattern, why is it that the attacker (the one who Minato fought) wasn't wearing the spiral thing?

He changed his mask. He's able to do that because the material is made from zetsu.

Interesting thought..

I think something is going to happen with Rin which will Tobi turn insane and follow Madara. In addition he will be trained by the Zetsus and create a weird relationship to them.
So I do think that Tobi was wearing the spiral mask in memory of his "teacher".

This is a good thread. I believe this Zetsu is going to die to die along with Rin and I believe Obito will play a big part in both of them dying. Both of these deaths that Obito might have caused will drive him to join Madara. I believe he wears masks because of that Zetsu.
