what if luffy was a girl , would one piece be as popular as it is now or would be even more popular (with more sales , obviously) than it has now?

Oh well. I do not think it will be as populare, since manga readers are mostly males and most prefer a male protagonist.

No it would simply due to demographics. The manga is geared towards Adolesence teen males not that females dont enjoy it. The protagonist being a strong willed female is a turn away for a large part of that demographic.
I wouldnt care. But being introduced to it would be much harder. It is a shonene manga btw which normally has a male protagonist so it might not have been picked up to begin with.
