Which brings me to my next question: In what way, precisely, is Sasuke not a main character? There's allowed to be more than one you know.
Many mains die. Gon died. TTGL. Code Geass. Gundam 00. Kenshin OVA. School Days. Light in Death Note, L in Death Note. Fullmetal Alchemist. Grave of the Fireflies.
This isn't made for a western audience. Naruto could actually die, although I doubt it. I suspect Naruto will lose to Sasuke, but still become Hokage.
It is "...a story about a boy named Naruto." - Masashi Kishimoto.
Naruto is the MC because the author made him the one and only MC in this particular story. No amounting of wishing will change that.

yeah, Kishimoto is going to have the mouthpiece of his story's message die to placate Sasuke homers. That makes sense. Many mains die. Gon died. TTGL. Code Geass. Gundam 00. Kenshin OVA. School Days. Light in Death Note, L in Death Note. Fullmetal Alchemist. Grave of the Fireflies.
