The Legendary Sage of Konoha Returns, Chapter 24;
Kabuto: Then come at me, show me your resolve!!
With blades in hand, Kabuto and Naruto clashed as Naruto already seemed beyond exhausted, claiming that he already was at his limit. Not only that, but the poison of Kabuto didn't really help the situation either, almost rendering Naruto unable to use Chakra manipulation. Seeing how close he was to end the battle, with Kabuto finally standing before him, Naruto summoned his last strength to face him, hoping to bring an end to the war, even if it would cost him his life. Knowing that he was able to beat the poison of Kabuto with the help of the Kyubi before, knowing that he would be able to overcome Kabuto, if he just could manage to hold on, if he could give it his last, he could finally bring an end to it all and start working towards his goal of true, ever-lasting peace. Kabuto, who already had summoned enough chakra to enter Sage Mode, lashed at Naruto, slowly overpowering him in the process as Naruto could do nothing more than to block his attacks.
Kabuto: I will be acknowledged, I will prevail!!
Almost knocking the Master Sword out of Naruto's hand, Kabuto swung around as he sliced his sword onto Naruto's back, causing a minor cut to appear as blood began to stream down his back. Letting out a deep groan, Naruto fell to his knees as he was breathing heavily.
Kabuto: Not so easy without the healing powers of your Tailed Beast, is it?? My poison is indeed doing its bidding.
Hinata: Naruto!!
Sasuke: Hinata, stand back...
Screaming to him through the barrier, only a couple of 20 meters away, Hinata was trying to reach out to him as Sasuke had to hold her back.
Kabuto: Oh I almost forgot, we have audience to witness our battle as well, even better!
Turning around to face them, Kabuto didn't immediately notice Naruto standing up and turning around towards his back, as he parried a strike from behind in the last minute, giving Naruto another blow, this time to his right leg, causing him to fall to the ground.
Kabuto: Down you go again! Come on, give me something here!!
Naruto: Careful what you wish for...
Kabuto: ?!
Suddenly, a shadow appeared behind Kabuto in an instant as a Rasengan was smashed into his back, sending him crashing to the ground.
Naruto: Doton: Kage bunshin...
As the smoke slowly thinned out, Naruto got back up on his feet as Kabuto shook off the rubles of rocks laying on top of him, as he too got back up on his feet.
Naruto: What's the matter?? Has all the meditation and watching me fight your Edo Tensei got you out of shape??
Kabuto: Hah, you think you're so smart huh... But you're right, I should have been able to sense and intercept that attack due to my Sennin Mode. Seems like I can't afford to underestimate your strength and speed after all, even in this state...
Naruto: I've only just started...
As he said, two yellow dots appeared around his eyes, as Naruto turned on Sage Mode.
Kabuto: You are very persistence Naruto-Kun, I'll give you that, but there must be a way to defeat you... And you didn't need more time to summon Sennin Mode I see. Well then, let's see who's better, the Dragon or the Toad!
Holstering his rapier, Kabuto then jumped backwards as he started to perform some hand-seals.
Kabuto: Tiger... Horse... Rabbit... Rat... Dog... Chakura no Mesu (Chakra Scalpel)...
Around his arms, two large sharp blades made out of chakra appeared, as Kabuto headed straight for Naruto.
Kabuto (In Thoughts): Why doesn't Naruto give in, what is it that drives him forward so hard, even though he's exhausted?? It can't just be his will and his need to save his friends, to create peace? Why do I envy his character?? No, I will prevail, I will crush him, I will become acknowledged, I will find my identity, my own way!
Naruto: Tch...
Drawing up the Master Sword in front of him to block, several rounds exchanged between them as Naruto found an opening, aiming to strike Kabuto down. But as he was inches from touching Kabuto's skin, Kabuto swung his right chakra blade, hitting Naruto's sword from the right, knocking it out of his grip and sending it flying through the air, hitting the ground by the barrier where the rest stood.
Kabuto: Now's my chance!
Aiming both his blades at Naruto, Kabuto suddenly got blown away by a mighty shockwave, just as he was about to touch him, sending him flying across the room. Landing on his back- sliding cross the ground, Kabuto let out a deep groan as his chakra blades shut off.
Naruto: *Pant, Pant*
Slowly seating himself up, Kabuto looked over at Naruto with an intense glare.
Kabuto: Shinra Tensei (Almighty Push) huh... I almost forgot about your Rinnegan, seems like you're starting to grasp its powers...
Naruto: *Pant, Pant* Hardly...
Kabuto: Heh...
Naruto: So what happened to you anyway, why are you doing this Kabuto? Why are you still pushing on?! I once strived to get acknowledged too, but it was through my friends that I found myself, my identity. You surely must have an idea how that's like... friends... This is not the way.
Kabuto: Kehehehe, are you trying to change my heart, Naruto-Kun?? Nothing you say or do will change me now... Not at this stage... In fact, let me ask you something...
Naruto: ??
Standing up on his feet again, Kabuto proceeded to walk towards Naruto slowly, as he halted about five or so meters away from him.
Kabuto: You could easily have gone down a different path...
Naruto: ...
Kabuto: When I fought Itachi and Sasuke during the last war, I learned more about myself, about what my new goals should be... I was nothing, no one from the very start, no name, no identity... When I finally found a way out of the Izanami, half of my new powers were gone, and I only found out later that Orochimaru-Sama had been resurrected through Anko, and that he had absorbed his chakra from me, leaving me behind. I was glad, but at the same time enraged... He had been my guide for a long time, my-...
Naruto: ??
Kabuto: But he had left me, he had left me over Sasuke... I finally knew then that I could no longer walk in the footsteps of Orochimaru-Sama, what Itachi meant, even if he was resurrected, I had to find my own way... Continuing my own goal, but adapting to new ideals... I went back to the Ryūchi Cave (Dragon Ground Cave) to study the Dragon Sage Mode once more... I had been living my life on a lie... Like I told you before, you inspired me in "finding a new me," that was my goal... And it still is! What Itachi said, basing who I am on being like other people, imitating them, is not who I really am, and it took a while before I finally realized that and admitted to it, that's how I got out of the Izanami...
Naruto: So why are you doing this?? In the past, you followed Orochimaru in his doing, why are you continuing to support his ways??
Kabuto: I'm not...
Naruto: ?! Then why?? What are you achieving by slaughtering 100ds of innocents, what are you achieving by continuing this war??
Kabuto: Recognition...

Kabuto: When I was in the orphanage, I was someone, I had an identity, my name... was Kabuto, I had something, someone to relate to... That day... when mother didn't recognize me, she... I was changed... Orochimaru took me in...

Still standing only 20 or so meters away from Naruto and Kabuto, blocked by his barrier, Sasuke finally spoke about the matter.
Sasuke: When Itachi performed Izanami on you.. that day, you told us about your story...
Kabuto: ...
Sasuke: Although I couldn't relate, Itachi did, he wanted to save you... I could have killed you that day, but I didn't... If I had, nothing of this would have happened, Suigetsu wouldn't have... Jugo, the previous kages, everyone else wouldn't have... Naruto changed me, helped me back to my way... you could still-...
Kabuto: Still what?! Kehehehe, come back to the light?? Please... ?!
To Kabuto's surprise, Naruto suddenly reached his hand out to him, as he said...
Naruto: It's not too late, please reconsider, surrender while you can...

Lingering a bit, Naruto still had his hand reached out as Kabuto looked at him, more surprised than ever before.
Kabuto: My name is not Kabuto!! My real name is not Kabuto!!!
Sasuke: !!

Kabuto: I can never go back, I don't exist, I'm already dead...
?: Kabuto?? You can't be... him?!
Kabuto: ?! Who are...
From the alliance, a alliance shinobi member stepped forward from the lines as he spoke...

Urushi: Yes, from the orphanage... We found you by that tree that day, you had injured your head so sister healed you... You had no name, so we named you Kabuto, after I put it on your head [Kabuto = helmet]... I've been looking for you for so many years, and yet, you were Kabuto Yakushi all the time...

Remembering back to the past, Kabuto knew he had seen this guy before.

Massive chakra then shot out from Kabuto's body as his Sage Mode took upon a dreadful form, as if powered up to another level.

Fun Facts & Author's Note:
1: I'll be honest, I didn't plan for this chapter to end this way, being of this length. The truth is, I've delayed this chapter due to the fact that I wasn't certain what to write next. It's been two weeks since I released the last chapter, and if I was able to continue my newly adopted release schedule, I should have released three other chapters in that time. The worst part is that I just picked this chapter up again today, after I stopped writing it right after I released chapter 23, and I only added a bit to what I already had written and that I merely polished what I had instead of continuing writing, meaning that this was more or less what I wrote the week when I released the previous chapter, so in other words, I kind of delayed this chapter for no reason... Well except for the fact that I was and still am a bit unsure what to write next, so that's why I decided to just end this one here, and continue with 25 instead. Since I didn't really get any requests for it either (as people usually bug me when I'm late with a chapter, haha), I didn't bother to stress with it (though I may add that I've had other things to do too, plus that I've been working some late nights and haven't had energy left to think about FFs). Like I said to some of you that I have on FB, the thing now is that the fight with Kabuto will go on until the next chapter, ending it at the beginning of chapter 26. The problem is that I seem a bit burned out after having constant battling since chapter 3 or so, and I didn't really know what I could add to this fight (already having Naruto fighting Tobi, the previous Hokages, Madara, Kushina, Jiraiya and Orochimaru, and not to forget the Sage himself), how I could overcome that, how I could make this fight interesting, and not to forget what I wanted to show off with this fight. The thing is that I had set off 24 and 25 to the battle with Kabuto, and the battle's length really came down to how long I made those chapters. So I've been brainstorming a lot, considering whether to make chapter 24 and 25 very big, one big and one small, two average or just two small ones, whether I should make the battle dragged on, or just short and epic. For my previous fights, I always knew what I wanted to portrait, what I wanted to show off, but with this one, I had no idea, making it hard to complete. However, I do believe I've more or less figured out how I'll make the next chapter, and it won't be as short as this one, I promise you that
2: When I was making this chapter, I had to do a lot of research on the battle between Sasuke/Itachi and Kabuto, going over those manga chapters, as well as Kabuto's flashback which appeared in them. In other words, it was hard to come up with a proper way to "finalize" Kabuto's character, and I'm hoping I've got your attention with this chapter, and that I've at least nailed his development to some degree, staying true to his character. Most parts of it was just thrown in there after reading those manga chapters, so if you're wondering who this "Urushi" is, you might want to search him up on Naruto.wikia (Narutopedia). I know how the battle will end in chapter 26 (have known so for a very long time), but I'm not sure how I'll get there quite yet, and due to this, I doubt I'll get chapter 25 released this week as well. I need to make it big without it being boring or repeating itself for one thing, and I need to show of Kabuto's abilities "truthfully" to his character. Even if I feel like just jumping to the end of this FF, I still need to finish it properly.
3: Again, for the people who read my "chapter names" spoiler a while back, you might find the name of this chapter not to be matching what I put in the spoiler. Unlike last time it happened (last chapter I think), I didn't change the name itself, I just swapped the name of this chapter with the next, meaning that Chapter 24 was originally named what Chapter 25 is named now, and Vice-Versa. A fun fact for you is that the name of this chapter, is the same as one of Kishi's chapter, back to when Sasuke & Itachi fought Kabuto in the manga... Entirely coincidental of course! ;D

The problem is that I seem a bit burned out after having constant battling since chapter 3 or so, and I didn't really know what I could add to this fight (already having Naruto fighting Tobi, the previous Hokages, Madara, Kushina, Jiraiya and Orochimaru, and not to forget the Sage himself), how I could overcome that, how I could make this fight interesting, and not to forget what I wanted to show off with this fight. The thing is that I had set off 24 and 25 to the battle with Kabuto, and the battle's length really came down to how long I made those chapters. So I've been brainstorming a lot, considering whether to make chapter 24 and 25 very big, one big and one small, two average or just two small ones, whether I should make the battle dragged on, or just short and epic. For my previous fights, I always knew what I wanted to portrait, what I wanted to show off, but with this one, I had no idea, making it hard to complete. However, I do believe I've more or less figured out how I'll make the next chapter, and it won't be as short as this one, I promise you that
2: When I was making this chapter, I had to do a lot of research on the battle between Sasuke/Itachi and Kabuto, going over those manga chapters, as well as Kabuto's flashback which appeared in them. In other words, it was hard to come up with a proper way to "finalize" Kabuto's character, and I'm hoping I've got your attention with this chapter, and that I've at least nailed his development to some degree, staying true to his character. Most parts of it was just thrown in there after reading those manga chapters, so if you're wondering who this "Urushi" is, you might want to search him up on Naruto.wikia (Narutopedia). I know how the battle will end in chapter 26 (have known so for a very long time), but I'm not sure how I'll get there quite yet, and due to this, I doubt I'll get chapter 25 released this week as well. I need to make it big without it being boring or repeating itself for one thing, and I need to show of Kabuto's abilities "truthfully" to his character. Even if I feel like just jumping to the end of this FF, I still need to finish it properly.
3: Again, for the people who read my "chapter names" spoiler a while back, you might find the name of this chapter not to be matching what I put in the spoiler. Unlike last time it happened (last chapter I think), I didn't change the name itself, I just swapped the name of this chapter with the next, meaning that Chapter 24 was originally named what Chapter 25 is named now, and Vice-Versa. A fun fact for you is that the name of this chapter, is the same as one of Kishi's chapter, back to when Sasuke & Itachi fought Kabuto in the manga... Entirely coincidental of course! ;D
