By law, one right ends if another right begins. A person who wants to kill you losses his right to live. To protect your life, the first rule is to know the imminent danger and how to avoid it. Prevention is always better than cure. I advise you to carry an all-in-one "Swiss Knife" just in case the former fails.
"Swiss Knife" or the likes are the easiest to carry while travelling. We if have to die, we must give hell before we do!
