The Infinite Tsukuyomi will fail. That's a given.
...
But how?
I have three ideas:
  1. He can't even do it at all because his Sharingan is deactivated in Ten-Tails mode (remember, he can't phase dimensions!) Only the Sage of Six Paths could possibly pull it off.
  2. He gets killed right as he's initiating it - at some climactic moment like - the moon's red, and everything starts phasing out - and somebody delivers the final blow, or the Juubi breaks out, or whatever ends up killing Obito.
  3. The Infinite Tsukuyomi is inherently flawed as a jutsu - it's a genjutsu, so it wouldn't last as a "new world" or anything - it has a time limit, and Obito won't be able to keep it going for long. He dies either having failed to realize his dream, or more interestingly:
What if Obito and Obito alone gets stuck in the Infinite Tsukuyomi after it fails?

I love the last idea. It's intriguing and puts a nice wrap up to his story line and his life as a whole (without the obvious need to kill him). The imagery would result in the best ending for his character (reuniting with rin, accomplishing his psychotic and wrongful goal).

OT: It's probably going to be option #2 though. Ever since the story reached the war arc, it's been quite drab and straightforward. Too obvious and predictable, IMO.
