Thank you guys for your support in the previous FFOTM contest ^^. And finally we get to an awesome (at least I think so) fighting part lol.
Tenzu looked at the table for a moment, and as if he was just now noticing, turned to Shinru and smiled, “Shinru? Fancy meeting you here.”
Instinctively, Shinru’s hand reached over his back and whipped back towards Tenzu, but this time, holding a two-foot long spear, his first hand near the tip, and his second somewhere in the middle.
Tenzu rose an eyebrow, “Not so much as a hello? Jeez, I feel so unwanted.” He started to stand up at the last few words as a blade, already dripping with fresh, scarlet blood extended from his sleeve.
Shinru allowed his grip to loosen, figuring he’d need more speed than power against this one. Tenzu held his arm out to his side, allowing the blade to scrape against the wooden wall, making Shinru wince at the mere sight, let alone the screeching sound.
In a split second, Tenzu pushed off of his back leg, changing his slow, menacing walk into a quick and deadly lunge, still leaving his knife out to the side to allow the once screeching sound, to now sound like some kind of beast in pain. As he neared Shinru, he pulled his arm slightly back, and then brought it back across, in an attempt to slice him across the chest. Shinru put his spear to the side the Uchiha’s blade was coming from; making a silent threat to chop the entire arm off should he continue.
Tenzu, realizing the threat for what it was, pulled his arm back, and using that same momentum switched to a backhand slice with the same arm. This time, Shinru took the chance to actually counter. Releasing the spear from his left hand, he pushed his right arm out to its respective side, effortlessly slapping the dagger away as Tenzu put his left foot in front of himself, stopping his lunge. Shinru, not done with his counter yet, pulled his spear back and leveled it into a stabbing position, and took several thrusts at his opponent. Almost too easily, every stab only met thin air as Tenzu danced around the blade. Growing weary of the constant movements, Tenzu pushed his arm out, gripping Shinru’s spear just behind its point.
Before Shinru even had time to register that his spear was behind held back, Tenzu pulled it down and backwards, making it stab into the ground behind him. Shinru, correctly assuming that this was simply to trick him into having many openings while being dragged down the spear, released his weapon from his hands and kicked his leg across his body, while turning to face his opponent fully.
Tenzu pushed his foot off of Shinru’s chest, pushing himself back at the same time, as
Shinru started a series of seals.
“Ice Style: Frost Spikes!” Shinru yelled out, making spikes of ice protrude diagonally from behind Tenzu, with the intention of making him run into it.
Tenzu quickly noticed the spikes, and flipped, turning himself upside-down. When he was more than half way upside-down, he placed both hands on the large spike, and then pushed both arms downward onto the spike, propelling him directly into the air. Tenzu landed on the ceiling, still upside-down. Strangely, his robe still completely covered his head even after all of that.
Tenzu shook his head, “Jutsu, already? Rather dull don’t you think? Has the great Shinru become so dependent on such cheap things?”
Shinru decided to return the comment this time, “Cheap? Funny, coming from an Uchiha.”
Tenzu let a small snarl out. It was no secret to many that Tenzu was quite defensive when it came to the near-extinct Uchiha clan. Though it was awkward that he was so bitter about it, considering that he abandoned the Uchiha clan long ago. None the less, he always seemed offended whenever anything was mentioned of the Uchiha clan. Most in Akatsuki and the few outside of it knew of this, and wisely avoided the entire subject in general.
Tenzu allowed himself to drop from the ceiling, flipping upright as he did so.
“Man is this dull,” Tenzu said, almost making the statement seem that he genuinely was tired and not simply trying to draw Shinru’s warrior side out. “How about you just step aside so I can get to your student, and we spare you the humiliation of getting beaten in your own armory?”
Shinru didn’t bother to answer, but instead pushed his foot back, launching himself back into motion, this time diagonally moving towards and away from his opponent at the same time. Taking a risk, or so Tenzu thought, Shinru hurled the spear towards him, at the same time, running along the wall. As he neared his opponent, he whip his hand across his body and back towards Tenzu revealing a revealed sword. Tenzu, expecting a dagger and truly surprised that an entire sword was hidden beneath his robes, barely evaded his head getting chopped off after moving towards the very same wall Shinru ran along.
Tenzu underestimated his opponent greatly, underestimated this man of many titles. The spear throw was obviously simply a decoy in order to force him to move towards the wall from which the sword thrust came from.
And even in that thought, he was still underestimating his rather clever opponent.
Tenzu’s leg shook, suddenly feeling a tingling sensation on it. He looked at his back leg to find ice crawling from his foot and nearing his waist! He looked further to find that the ice was coming from the spear that had burrowed into the ground not too far behind him. Shinru took more steps along the wall to finally land, a broad grin spreading across his formerly grim features.
“Clever Shinru, a decoy for your decoy,” he gave a slight chuckle and suddenly sunk disappeared into nothingness.
“What the...” Shinru started as the smile faded into a look of confusion, but suddenly felt the cold steel of a certain dagger pressing against his neck.
Turning as much as he could bear, Shinru could clearly see Tenzu protruding from the wall, but not him fully; only his upper body was out. Still, he couldn’t see his face, though.
Shinru pounced backwards, reaching out for his spear as he did so and being careful not to land on the ice. He immediately knew that he couldn’t stay inside. This... thing that Tenzu was doing would allow him to constantly do what he just did. Eventually, it would get to be too much. He had to hope that he could only do this through the surfaces of other objects.
Shinru threw his spear into the air and jumped after it. Right before he was fully towards the ceiling, the spear did it’s work and started to spread ice across the roof which Shinru hammered through with his shoulder, retrieving his spear with his free hand as he did.
“C’mon Shinru... Running away? Where’s that proud and honorable guy I so wished to slaughter?” the Uchiha taunted.
Shinru, now fully outdoors, made several hand signs but said no words. On both sides of him, large masses of ice started to rise up from the ground, and from those masses protruded wolves of ice. As Tenzu started to rise from the ground, Shinru rushed towards him, the wolves several feet before him.
Tenzu moved forward as well, shooting several minute balls of fire, accurately striking each wolf head on and unsheathed a short sword of equal length to the one Shinru once was using, and at the same time, protruding the dagger he was using before from his sleeve.
The two rushed towards each other, and both were immediately entwined in an everlasting dance of blades.
For the second time that day, Riku woke with a start, hearing a giant burst outside, and the clanging of steel against steel soon after. Jumping out of his bed, his clothing already on, Riku opened the door of his cabin to see Shinru’s armory far down the hill. Squinting, he could see broken ice coating the top of the large hut. Running down the hill, he unsheathed Soul Eater, oblivious to the impending doom he was sprinting towards.
An Unwelcome Reunion
