The Avenger

“What’re you doing here?” Riku asked, taking a step back and holding his blade so that it was up in the air, but pointed towards Sasuke. The hilt of the blade and Riku’s hand were both slightly behind the boy’s head as the sword itself pointed towards the immediate threat.

“It’s rather unusual for a visitor to ask a resident why he’s in his own home,” Sasuke answered calmly holding his blade so that his arm and the blade made a sort of zigzag pattern. His arm went across his body to the left, while his blade was angled so that it went back across to the right.

Riku opened his mouth, but Deirous instead interrupted him, saying what Riku was about to ask, “Aren’t you with Akatsuki?”

Sasuke chuckled, “Akatsuki... don’t associate me with them. Ever since Madara died they’ve just been a group of social outcasts, though arguably, most of them were back then. But at least those outcasts were decent shinobi,” he stated.

A thought just came to Riku. How did he know about Akatsuki when the Raikage didn’t? He talked as if he knew more than Riku did, which wasn’t saying much, but any amount that he may have would be valuable.

Riku’s thoughts came to an abrupt conclusion, as Sasuke moved quickly, so quickly that they lost sight of him for a moment, and all they could see was a moment of the wind parting as he rushed through it. When they caught sight of him again, he was between the two of them.

He quickly threw his both of his arms out wide, his legs spread at least shoulder length apart as well, “Chidori Nagashi!” As he yelled the words out, lightning burst out in all directions around him.

Deirous, knowing that his earth based clay couldn’t block the lightning, allowed himself to jump backwards and high into the air as well, as Riku rolled backwards to dodge the burst of lightning. While in the air, Deirous slammed both of his hands together, allowing both hands to wrap around each other in an earth hand seal. As he did so, a dragon made of clay appeared under him in a sudden puff of white smoke.

Sasuke wasted no time, looking towards Deirous for only a moment, but then pivoting to face Riku as he jumped off of his back foot and went for a stab, seeming to want to waste no time by going straight towards Riku.

In response, Riku held up Soul Eater so that the flat of the blade was showing towards Sasuke in an attempt to block the blade. Little did he know that the Uchiha, though not as special as Soul Eater, held a very special blade himself—his own variation of the Kusanagi sword. Sasuke’s Kusanagi, working its ability perfectly, stabbed a hole right through Soul Eater. Riku, too stunned by what had just happened, didn’t even see Sasuke’s empty hand was moving in a series of hand seals. Suddenly, from the blade that had stopped just short of Riku’s heart, suddenly released a long line of lightning, seeming to extend its reach in the form of a spear. Riku hastily spun to the side of the blade, towards the hilt, and at the conclusion of the spin, he pulled Soul Eater towards him. Just as he thought, Sasuke’s Kusanagi cut the blade, making it seem more like a claw, due to the empty space in the middle of the blade. He figured that anything else would have cut the blade directly in half, he was happy that this was a much more minor change.

Meanwhile, Deirous made one more hand seal as a cluster of spikes pushed up from under Sasuke. His giant bird then swooped down, spewing out explosives as he went down diagonally, and suddenly making a sharp turn to soar back horizontally in the air and go past Sasuke.

As the spikes appeared, the first one coming behind Sasuke, he flip backwards, landing with much agility on the spike in a crouched position, he then jumped off of that spike to avoid the explosives and become leveled with the bird, and as he went up, he brought his hands together several times in another series of hand signs, “Katon: Gokakyu no Jutsu!”

As he yelled, a large fireball streamed out of his mouth, rushing towards Deirous. Deirous’s bird acted for him as it turned back around to face Sasuke, quickly angling itself to fly back upwards into the air, and then back downwards, performing a quick dash over the fireball. By then, however, Sasuke had already fallen back onto the rubble of rocks left from the spikes being blown up by the explosion.

Deirous’s bird turned around one more time, but instead of dashing forward, it stopped, Deirous intently staring at Sasuke, “What’s your deal!?” he yelled out.

Deirous was too busy talking to notice that Sasuke had begun performing another jutsu, though he held his hand near his stomach, to conceal it from Deirous who was behind him. As soon as Deirous’s question was finished, he turned around quickly to face him, revealing that his hand was coated in lightning, as needles quickly shot out of it.

Deirous, seeing no way to dodge the spray of needles and keep his clay bird active at the same time, especially since he had been caught off guard by this particular jutsu, rolled to the side, falling off of the bird as the roll came to a conclusion. He landed on his feet as his clay bird was stabbed with the needles and disappeared. The three seemed to be in an L shape. Deirous stood at the top of the L, with Sasuke in a perfectly straight line in front of him, and in another line next to Sasuke, though a fair distance away, Riku stood, gathering himself to come back into the battle.

“Why are you here?” Sasuke asked, his voice indifferent, but deadly at the same time, as if their answer depended on whether or not this would continue.

Riku looked over and, as expected, he saw Deirous preparing to speak, but hastily interrupted him, knowing that Deirous’s answer would likely get them killed, “We’re passing through to get to Konoha.”

Riku, though he was a fair distance from his opponent, could see Sasuke’s teeth clench tightly at the mention of the name, “Konoha...” he said, his voice drifting off with the wind, then, with a sudden growing amount of fierceness in his voice, he repeated himself, a snarl with his voice this time, “Konoha.”

Riku’s eyes narrowed, curious about the increase in hostility. He began to speak, but was cut short as he suddenly noticed Sasuke reappear right in front of him, coming towards him in a quick sprint, his hand coated in lightning yet again. Riku spun to the side, narrowly dodging the stab. However, Sasuke relentlessly continued the attack, spinning on his heel to stop his sprint and turn as he swiped his extended arm across to cut Riku. The lightning jutsu cut right across Riku’s chest, but hardly deep enough to put him at a near-death situation, but the jutsu was powerful enough to put a person in great pain. As his spin completed, Riku seemed to register what had just happened, feeling a sudden pain as he fell down, catching himself on one knee and his other leg bent as he clutched his chest, going for a desperate stab with his right hand, which still held the slightly broken Soul Eater.

Sasuke, seeing no reason for any large-scale dodges or blocks, simply sidestepped, easily avoiding the stab as Riku’s right arm limply fell, and he just realized that the chidori had cut him in his shoulder as well. He came down with his Kusanagi almost cutting Riku’s neck, but out of the corner of his eye he could see Deirous rushing at him from his right side. Quickly, he redirected the movement of his blade, suddenly extending it out straight to his side as lightning extended from it, covering forming a spear that increased its reach greatly again. The lightning, however, stopped just short of Deirous’s neck as he stopped his sprint, and it couldn’t be more obvious that Sasuke had done this on purpose, and not that it just coincidentally stopped. Sasuke’s eyes, however, stayed down on Riku, and the sole fact that he could stop Deirous pinpoint like that, and control the jutsu perfectly without a hand seal to still keep Deirous alive, among many other things, brought both of the youths to an abrupt conclusion.

They couldn’t beat him.

Sasuke continued to look down on Riku for a moment, and then began to speak, “What business do you have with Konoha?” he asked.

“Just... a place to seek refuge...” Riku said, breathing heavily with each word.

Sasuke, hardly actually caring for their answer, something that Riku had already guessed, continued, “Your journey... ends here.”

The Chidori spear continued, while from Sasuke reached towards his waist to grab a kunai. Quickly, he brought the kunai down towards the side of Riku’s neck, while his spear rushed towards Deirous.

Suddenly, though, Deirous disappeared. Sasuke, without even looking, could tell that this wasn’t actually Deirous’s doing, but someone else’s, and as he continued with the kunai, only slightly slowed by the sudden occurrence, he suddenly felt a tight grip on his wrist. Picking his eyes up from Riku to where the hand seemed to come from, he could clearly see another man standing next to Riku, his face stern, and looking Sasuke dead in the eyes without a hint of fear, with one arm was stretching into the air, the hand that was grabbing Sasuke’s wrist. Sasuke gritted his teeth in annoyance as he realized who the man was.

“Sasuke,” the man said, as he stood next to a stunned Riku, “Chill out.”
