Throughout his life in the northern mines, Shang met up with two other slaves, Bai Cai and Ah Gou. They soon bonded inseparable and aided each other through the tough times in the hellish mine. As they mined for blood stones, they also created a large passage way outside of the mines to escape. When it was night, they covered the passage way with a large boulder, invisible to all except them. When it was complete, Ah Gou convinced both Bai Cai and Jiang Shang to leave quickly. His reason for not leaving was that he had other plans he'd like to accomplish to permanently take down the northern mines. Escaping through the passage way, Bai Cai and Jiang Shang fled to a small village. They soon became inhabitants of the village and were considered as citizens. Bai Cai sold hot buns for money and Jiang Shang helped build buildings. They soon had enough money to survive themselves, but Ah Gou was no where to be seen. He had not returned as he promised. Jiang Shang decided to go on a trip to find him. Along his journey to somehow find Ah Gou, he stumbled upon two men attempting to rape a women in the woods. A usual commoner would continue to walk and forget what they witnessed, but for Jiang Shang, he was convinced to stop them for their acts of sin. Sadly, he found himself laying on the floor hopelessly grasping onto life. It felt as if Death had been knocking on his door, eagerly wanting to enter. Suddenly a large man had rescued his life, known as Bai Yu. He had seen his act of bravery and courage to save the women and he was swayed by it. Bai Yu took care of Jiang Shang in a mysterious island called Wan Qu. There, he taught Shang about the world, and especially how to fight and handle potential dangers. He also taught Jiang Shang discipline, and helped him overcome the obstacles provoking him of achieving his full potential. Because of his great skill, Jiang Shang was appointed as the Honored Ones, a group of elite shinobis that protected the Kingdom of Wan Qu. His name changed from Jiang Shang to Jiang Ziya. His very first mission was to talk to the Governor of the Dark One's City, a large civilization living near the outskirts of Wan Qu. To his amazement, the governor was Ah Gou himself. He gladly accepted the mission, and headed to the large city. Sadly, the message he planned on telling his old childhood friend was not pleasant. Arriving to his destination, he encountered Ah Gou who had noticed him ever since he removed his mask. Instead of telling him to surrender, he warns Ah Gou that the Honored Ones planned on taking over and destroying the Dark One's City to preserve the Kingdom of Wan Qu. His teacher Bai Yu had heard Jiang Ziya's act of high treason and sends him to the brink of death, although Bai Yu considered him as a son. Ah Gou and the rest of his army fought the Honored Ones, in a battle to save one's city. Later on the fight, Bai Yu was betrayed by his fellow Honored One Brother, Long Jiu, who desired to desecrate Wan Qu. As Long Jiu formed the final hand seals to finish off Bai Yu, Jiang Ziya quickly tackled him away from the blast, with Ah Gou immediately countering Long Jiu. As they fought elsewhere, Bai Yu admits his failure and admits that he was wrong. He acknowledges Jiang Ziya and considers him as a son. As he passed away, Jiang Ziya promised to avenge his death and protect the Kingdom of Wan Qu. Wearing the straw hat his teacher always wore, Jiang Ziya confronted Long Jiu one last time with Ah Gou.
I am Jiang Ziya, Honored One of the Kingdom of Wan Qu, Bai Yu's Successor.
