the hokages

hi everybody i gotta question.

the hokages are named as follow shodaime, nidaime, sandaime, yondaime and godaime, now in jap counting is as follow 1 = ich, 2 = ni, 3 = san, 4 = chi, and 5 = go, as you can see the 2nd 3th and 5th they al have the correct "number" in their names but 4 the 1st and 4th it is different, can anybody tell me where the "sho" and "yon" come from?
please tell me cuz it has been bothering me 4 some time.

i'm pretty sure 4 can be both shi or yon... there is some rule for it but i've forgot what thet rule is ...

i quickly checked about shodaime so i searched the word "first" on this site...

first 10 days of the month shojun (n-adv,n)

or just forget about it all and think... it's just fiction and it doesn't really need thinking about too much

but damn, japanese sure has a lot of words for being first... unbelievable...at least know i kinda get why it isnt ichidaime and chidaime

no problem... it does seem a little complicated... there are lots of different words that have the same meaning... some just get used more than others that's all

yondaime in japanese translates to four so "the fourth" with a little twist.

daime seems to just be a variation on the word daimei which means title
yon means 4

so basically he's the 4th of the title (not the fourth ranked but the 4th to hold the main title)
