Basically, I saw this:

And I thought, what Naruto character truly inspires?

Itachi? No. Itachi is a ninja paragon, but he was blessed with intellect, skill, and a bloodline that ultimately put him on par with legendary ninja when he was only a child.

The same problem is encountered, to varying degrees, with most of the heroes in Naruto.

Minato had the innate, magical talent and intellect. Hashirama had magic cells. All the elites, to some degree or another, were just gifted their abilities, whether through birth or circumstance, and it took me only a short while to realize the king of Narutoverse in this aspect:

I think Rock Lee epitomizes what Naruto should have been before all this child of destiny and Kurama nonsense went out of control. Rock Lee is an underdog with a heart of steel. Even Sasuke, singularly focused and driven by immeasurable hatred for Itachi, knew that, upon meeting Lee, that Lee's drive was far beyond him, Naruto, or anybody for that matter.

This was the single greatest moment in the manga for me:

And it fills me with great pleasure, after remembering this:

Gai should be proud.

Rock Lee can't drive a plot...

That's the side part. It's a nice sentiment because he's a side character, the entire situation gets completely reversed if that is a main character. It's easy to say "I wish Naruto was like this instead of this..." because you've seen the complete model Kishi had time to work on.

Working hard can't bring themes like revenge, hatred, peace, and fixing the mistakes of the old generation home. Besides, I think Naruto does exemplify most of those characteristics.

But yes, I agree he is the most inspiring character in the series. At least for me he is.

Jiraiya had an inspiring ending.

Maybe. I can't really critique Kishimoto because he's so much more successful, but still, I wish it could drive a plot lol.

Actually it can. Lee practically has things a bit harder than even Naruto and has to work harder than anyone else to show some progress.

I would gladly have wanted to know more about Lee, but being a side character, it was destinied for him to eventually be put to the side in order to let the stronger people shine hence why he has always gone up against people who are stronger than him

But one thing that he lets people know about Lee is that he will put up a DAMN good fight just to prove that hardwork in itself can be just good as natural genius.

To everyone that posted aside from the OT, you're missing it. One person even mentioned "driving plot." No, this post isn't about plot. This post is about heart, and true strength, even when you aren't strong, aren't smart, and don't have the genes that make ninjas as high class as they are. Rock Lee is by far the most absolute correct answer here, and thank you for this thread. Rock Lee has heart that can only be compared to Naruto's. Naruto's drive is similar to Lee's.

To use an analogy to possibly clear up what I'm saying-
Itachi and Minato are like people who grew up in a rich family.
Naruto is like a person who was lucky enough to hit the lottery by playing and never giving up on it.
Lee, on the other hand, is like a poor man who didn't get lucky ever, but built a company from scratch and became rich through his own sheer hard work.
And for those of you that don't understand, the analalogy is that bein rich = being a great ninja.

Lee was born for Taijutsu..... even Kakashi looked at him and said it wasn't about the hardwork.. but Lee was just a genius...

Kid Obito stomps everyone, he started as a weak character but highly determined, and end up having the stronges set of MS eyes.
If he didn't turn evil, he would have been the perfect hero. :whip:

Sasuke for the win. And don't show a page where Lee needed the kyuubi cloak to eveen get that close to Madara. Lee is a terrible character just like Naruto because they regurgitate the same bullshit ideals. At least with Naruto he CAN achieve it. Lee will never be a ninja because you need to know ninjutsu to even be considered a ninja. Let's all be serious: Who can Lee really beat outside of Konoha that is Kage level. Whenever we see Lee it's him getting smacked around by someone.

Actually, I don't find inspiration in Lee's story....
Sasuke inspires me to get revenge.
Obito inspires me to do everything I can to change the world.
Madara inspires me to indoctrinate children when they're weak to achieve my goals.
Sasori inspires me to rid myself of humanity to move beyond "right" and "wrong."
Orochimaru inspires me to perform live human experiments.
Kabuto inspires me to scavenge power from dead bodies.
Deidara inspires me to self-sacrifice to defeat my enemies, preferably by exploding.
Ino inspires me to wear nice clothes.
And Sakura inspires me to wear more pink. :bouncy:

Lee was born for Taijutsu.....

No, he wasn't. That was the result of hardwork.

Lee was shown and said to have very below-average taijutsu at the academy, along with no ninjutsu or genjutsu.
