The Sharingan and Rinnegan are related in no way. They have completely different names, colors, designs, and powers. You don't need the Sharingan to awaken the Rinnegan proven by how Hagoromo didn't have one and Black Zetsu tried to get both sides of transmigrants to awaken the eye. The only reason why only Uchiha have awaken it is because in both of those instances they got Hashirama's chakra and DNA, bringing out Hagoromo's chakra, giving them his bloodline limit.

I agree that they're two separate dojutsu, but Indra's Sharingan is still required because normal eyes don't possess Hagoromo's Yin

That's not logical. If Ashura's eyes don't have the yin, then Indra's eyes don't have the yang. Once either transplants the other's DNA correctly, their chakra merges giving them what they needed. You can't just say only Indra can get the yang.

If you're trying to say that Indra needs Ashura's body and Ashura needs Indra's eyes, that's incorrect. The Rinnegan happens because of the chakra in the eyes, nothing to do with the rest of your body.

Eh, you need senju and uchiha dna together to make a rinnegan no? Sharingan, ms, and even ems are still still attainable solely within the clan, maybe that's why?

Ashura and Indra's chakra. But from the looks of it only the Uchiha side(Indra's transmigrant) are able to unlock it.

OT nah it's still 3 because MS is still a Sharingan. Rinnegan is a whole new eye.
