You do realize that even if that part came back on the site, it still doesn't mean you're really talking to a boy if the gender says boy. It's easy to lie about your gender - hell, some people kept changing it every few months.
I don't see the point in having such a gender distinction. What does it matter whether you're talking to a boy or a girl? Most of the time you can notice it at the way they write anyway. And if you want to refer to someone and you're not sure whether to call that member a he or a she, you can just solve it by mentioning the name of that member.
Besides, this suggestion has been made various times before already.
