Focus on the above

When Naruto was training for SM, we were told of the giant toad statues. They can way over 50 tonnes, in Naruto world weights - in other words, scaling does not negate the fact and its implication. In the picture above, Naruto is the small orange dot in front of Gamakichi. With Kichi himself being the size of a tailed beast, this shows the statues are massive!

Now let us turn to Jiraiya against the SPoP.

In that fight, we saw Jiraiya place 3 stone swords through the paths. There are two possibilities in terms of how he did that. He either created the swords by shaping NE into sword shapes and plucking them out of the wall or something or he summoned the swords from Mt. Myoboku. The former option makes sense because we know NE can turn things to stone (he could have even used his own hair) and any sort of artillary was never mentioned in Myoboku. It would also explain why we hardly see Jiraiya use normal weapons - he can create any shape and size of hard stone weapons whenever he needs to. The latter option makes sense because it is so easy to just summon weapons and an artillary makes logical sense in any important location, especially a fighting location (imagine a spy pretended to be a student but launched havoc from within).

Whichever it is, the summoning option raises interesting possibilities. Jiraiya could easily summon the frogs to crush any opponent. As already covered, the frogs are too heavy to be handled and would crush anything beneath; they are too big to be dodged; and their stone is of such quality in hardness that no normal defence could stop them. In addition to their own quality, the summoning technique is instant and can almost not be reacted to - as we saw against Kurama, the technique is faster than a V2+ combatant can react to and as we saw with the homonculi during the 4th War, the fact that its a teleportation technique makes the best sensing useless against it. So with someone like Jiraiya at it, the technique could be used to instantly crush any opponent who can't blitz Jiraiya.

As for why it has never been seen, we are told that those statues are treated with high respect (they are 'senpai', after all). So we must consider such a strategy as an option with natural inhibitions removed - like a world war.

So under such considerations, what would the strategy be worth?

That's an option, but you repsect the dead. Those were toads who turned to stone, not some weapon.
Hold on

Would it not be easy for Jiraiya/Naruto/Minato to flood natural energy into the giant plants there, turning them into tailed beast sized boulders, with some sharp edges, for summoning purposes?

You don't know what Natural Energy (Senjutsu) means in Naruto. Nature Energy circulates around everywhere soil, air, plants, etc.

And nature energy does not work that way. It only petrifies humans who are able to use it.

Yes, its in nature, hence the name "nature energy". But its balanced properly there.

Nature includes people . . .

Jiraiya would attempt to overflow it, put too much in it to cause the petrification

Only humans? That's a restrictions not given. We are told neophytes, but not that others wouldn't turn to stone. Look at the stone swords, they're clearly petrified. Look at Void Path, its not alive yet . . .

Finally, context. Kurama is not a perfect knowledge and word master. He was expressing things so Naruto - stupid guy - would easily understand. For one, the tree exists on its own as a purely physical object, so it can't be pure NE. Again, Fukasaku was doing the same. Frog turning only happens in Myoboku, despite NE existing outside of that place. In Ryuchi, they turn into snakes etc. Words =/= meaning, but rather intention. Closely related, but they're not perfect.

This process would be exactly the same as when Jiraiya turned that Rain shinobi into a frog. Forcing an imbalance. Just like how a fire ball would burn someone even though heat exists in their body.
