The Gaslight Anthem is a punk rock band from New Jersey who blend elements of blues and folk into their work. This is my all time favorite band. New album came out a couple days ago and I could not be more excited. Their songs, mostly on The '59 Sound sound create fictional stories filled with references to things from Charles Dickens novels to Counting Crows and Bob Dylan songs.

They are very heavily influenced by Bruce Springsteen, The Misfits, and The Replaliquid nitrogents which can be heard in pretty much all of their songs. They're songs have a sort of blues/folkish feel to them despite being in a punk rock style.
I highly recommend this band to anyone who likes rock, punk, alternative, etc... The Navesink Banks, Red At Night, Here's Looking At You Kid, and Even Cowgirls Get The Blues are played in a very blues and folksy style so I recommend those songs if you aren't a fan of punk type music.
Despite being classified as a punk band, their lyrics are too well written to put them in that genre, imo. Not to say punk music is dumb but Gaslight's lyrics sound far too educated for them to be a classified with the "eff the system" kind of punk rock bands. Their second studio album references songs by countless classic artists(and Counting Crows) as well as several novels. Beautiful lyrics and beautiful songs.
All three of their studio albums are incredible however The '59 Sound is one of the few albums I have ever heard that I thought was absolutely perfect.
