The Fruit is a self reproducing entity. It gets eaten, gives it's seed, aka Juubi's Eye, and via the Eye creates IT, which in turn creates another fruit.
But if everyone dies, how would the Fruit be reproduced during the next cycle?
That's where Kaguya comes in. Where did the Fruit she ate come from?
It couldn't have used Humans as a power source otherwise humans would be extinct.
IT was used on Kaguya's previous people. Everyone died with the exception of Kaguya's ancestors.
IT has to at least leave a few people alive so they reproduce and continue a species for IT to consume again.
Another possibility is that Kaguya's is the only survivor, hence the only one with chakra left, and the modern day humans were simply spawned by the Shinju. With this hypothesis, the previous cycle must have gave Kayuga a vast life span. Also, this hypothesis makes sense as Kaguya looked alien like from the start.
