Check it out. I spotted it in a photographer's album on deviantart. It's a malayan horned frog from Selangor, Malaysia.

The Myoboku amphibians consist of both frogs and toads.

Nope, they're all toads. Aside from Shima, Fukasaku, Gerotora and Kousuke, their names all begin with "Gama", meaning toad. And even the aforementioned four are still toads.

Even with that in mind, we're talking about Bunta specifically, not Mount Myouboku.

However its hard to tell most toads have brow ridges. Which is most likely why you picked that frog, because of its ridges.

Except that Gamahiro is Gamaken are illustrated as frogs. Further, the term frog was often used throughout the manga when referring to them. Anyway, frogs and toads are of the same niche. There really isn't that much of a technical difference between them. And just because one is a toad and the other is a frog doesn't mean Kishimoto didn't use one's concept to construct the other.

That one looks nothing like Gamabunta or the others lols.

First off, I didn't "pick" anything. If you actually read my op, I came across it by accident on deviantart. And no, I *linked it because of its distinctive colors, eyes and horns.

Gamabunta was anyway.

That's nice. A pity I don't speak Japanese like the majority of the people here. Lols.

The tailed beasts aren't original to Kishimoto either, yet he still redid most of their concepts.

Manda and sage mode kabuto look to be based off the desert adder/viper.

Orochimaru and his snakes resemble to the grass snake, which lives in marshes and knock on wood, feed mostly on amphibians lols. The white snake however is based off a German Fairy Tale by the Brothers Grim. I believe there's also a chinese fable based off it.

Katsuyu I believe is based off the giant slug called Limax Maximus or the great grey slug, native to Europe. They're also called cannibal slugs.

And before any more snarky aresholes roll in, yes, I'm well aware of the fable of jiraiya that Kishimoto based the sannin off of.

@Nope.

They get called frogs because the word for toad in Japanese is the same one use for frog, but the fact that it's a mountain of toads where Toad Sage Mode is taught lends itself to the fact that they're all toads.

Even the databook says the same thing about all of them; toads.

Gama refers to

Except the fact that at least two are frogs, frgos and toads are of the same niche and as you said, it's the same word. :p

Toads and frogs are of the same niche. Who gives a **** what the databooks say, especially when they've been retconned.

Gama refers to

And frog.
