While react always existed, they're the one who made it famous and (rip-offs are big on youtube) people who then profit off them via making similarly structured videos are guilty of theft in some way. So it's understandable, but again the way the script they wrote is presented in their video, being slightly manipulative and selling it as a positive thing doesn't exactly instill comfort in the hearts of legit youtubers looking to earn their livelihood from REACT format in general, so them going overboard and internet just being internet blowing things in proportion as it suites them is also.. well expected.
However the fact they they won't abuse this(they already were coy in their announcement) isn't really guaranteed, and I don't trust them, and they handled it poorly instead of just making best videos. Though imo as far as famous yters go, pewdiepie handles everything the best way, intelligent guy.
