Chapter 3

At the very moment, the very second I stepped outside, I knew the world had changed forever. The very fabric of human existence had ripped at its seems, tearing down order and unleashing chaos. The wind would no longer blow, babies would no longer cry, and clocks would now strike thirteen.

The day had turned to darkness. And it was only two in the afternoon.

The policemen standing beside me gasped. Will, falling over, face-planted in the grass without his hands to break the fall. Looking up, I sat there in stunned silence, unsure whether to be horrified or amazed. Because in all honesty, it was spectacular. Livid sky stretched as far as the eye could see; bright lights illuminating intelligent, organized structure. Colossal, oval shaped apertures sprung methodically from the expanse, leading to hell or something worse. Silver beams jutted out at random, their ends coming to a fine, precise point. It was a truly awe inspiring, yet terrifying sight.

Cold sweat ran down my face as I stood petrified. Everything I knew screamed this couldn't be possible, that I must be dreaming, or possibly hallucinating. That was the only rational explanation, the only possible explanation. Yet there it was, a massive, daunting entity looming over me. And as real as anything I had ever seen.

Weak and sick to my stomach, I snapped out of my trance. "Will, come on! We need to find cover!"

Turning to look at the officers, I expected some resistance. None came. They both just stood there, frozen mid-gaze, their heads pointed towards the gigantic, unknown structure.

Annoyed, I turned my attention back to Will. "Will. I said let's get out of here!"

"Oh y-yeah.. right." Will sputtered out, maneuvering to stand up with cuffed hands.

"Come on," I said, grabbing Will to help him up. "We'll hide in the house."

*

Looking through the window, I could just make out the officers still staring lifelessly at the body of black in the sky. It had been six hours since it first appeared, and it was now getting dark for real. Night time dark, not blocking-out-the-sun dark. This calmed me down extensively. The sun still worked.

I walked over and joined Will on the couch. He was rocking back and forth, his knees tucked into his arms. "What do you think this thing is?" I asked.

No answer.

"You must have some ideas worked out in your head."

No answer.

"Come on," I reasoned. "For all we know, it could be some NASA experiment."

Standing up suddenly, Will sliced his arms back and forth and glared at me. "Oh yeah? A NASA experiment? Tell that to the two men outside who have been staring at it for the last six hours!"

I had nothing to say to that. Will went back to rocking on the couch.

*

In the kitchen, I once again found myself trying the phone. Throughout the last six hours, I had called two numbers numerous times, but the calls never went through. My mom and 911. I secretly hoped the phone was old, and that was the reason it wasn't working. This was much better than the alternative. So I picked it up and tried my mom.

*beep*
*beEP*
*BEEP*

The operators voice came through. "I'm sorry sir, but that call can't be completed as dialed. Please try again later"

"Damn it!" I whispered harshly, slamming the phone back into the holder. Calls won't go through, and I'm willing to bet the culprit isn't an old phone.

*

"Will, we really need to talk about this." I said, sitting down casually on the couch.

"Talk away."

"You sitting on the couch doing nothing isn't helping things. We need to come up with a plan. I'm thinking we may have to walk back to town. The phone isn't working and I'm sure they know what is happening there."

"No way."

"What is wrong with you? Why won't you even try?"

"Because there's a massive ship in the sky. That's why I won't try!"

"W-what did you just say?"

"I said there is a ship in the sky."

I slinked back in horror as I realized he was right. It was a ship.

End of Chapter Three

Chapter 4 (If I get enough support, I'll continue!)

Author's Note

I wrote this a few years ago, around 7th or 8th grade. Even though I briefly read through it, I apologize in advance if there are any grammar or punctuation errors. If I get enough readers and support, I would gladly continue the series.

So shit finally went down. To be honest here, there are so many of these stories that I can't count 'em. Nevertheless, this is a decent story. Good job.
