In my opinion, the anime is canon but I can't force anyone to think that. The anime actually develop so many things, many characters, etc... Studio Pierrot show Naruto in a way better light than the movie, someone who actually care for his family, I often bash Sakura but I think they make a great job with her, same with Shino and many "old" characters.

So novel is the source of actual story now? What a clutter of writing this Boruto series has been.

Finding something from a novel that will happen in the anime doesn't make it less a filler. Its still a filler. The only canon source of Boruto right now is Boruto manga write by Ikemoto/Kodachi.

Taking ideas from non valid source will only cause a contradiction if they starting to flow differently at one point of time.

Novel-anime is just another story but not the actual one. The actual one is Manga-anime.

The first 18 episodes+Gaiden+Boruto manga-anime adaptation.

The room for novel is if something that happen in the Novel happen also in Boruto manga.

Naruto manga made alot of contradiction before so it doesn't hold much merit to what you are saying regarding the status of the anime. In fact the anime so far have atleast been consistently in the writing than most og-shippuden fillers episode.

I'm not arguein whether that its likely to be canon but we do know both Kodachi and kishimoto are contributing to both the anime and manga as well as the novel.
Kishimoto was also noted by the director that he regularly check up in the anime and worked behind the scene but we cannot be certain which ep or how much he was involved in.

Therefore there is no telling what is canon or what is filler. Frankly speaking I don't think it matters anymore as much as it used to because unlike naruto, boruto has many sources outlet to go through.
