This whole ordeal regarding the birth mother was just a way to change Sarada's thinking to what Sakura told her in the beginning. That her and Sarada are connected to Sasuke and each other via a strong bond. Stronger than what she believes are facts or the time that they have spent together.

Having Karin not be the mother diminishe's nothing. In fact it actually strengthens the message by showing Sarada how much her parents love her and one another

I've said this many times, the whole point of this misunderstanding is to teach Sarada a life lesson, that bonds>blood, and she already learnt the lesson before confirming with Sakura and Sasuke themselves, so if he finds out that Sakura is indeed her mother after all, she won't suddenly forget what she learned.
