Fragrances and aromatic perfumes wafted through the narrow walkways of the stronghold, bringing with them a sense of calm serenity to all those who indulged in aroma.
The sound of wood clashing against wood resounded through the cavernous hallways of the Sparring Arena within the Shensen Stronghold, located at the north-eastern district of the Hyomaru Compound, found high in the mountains of Eastern Japan. Splinters of wood dusted the sandy floor of the training room, large craters and disfigurements to the sand indicative of the struggle occurring on its grounds.
The Hyomaru scion dodged the flight of the steel-tipped stave, the weapon missing his head by mere centimeters, crashing instead onto the hard marble wall causing its smooth white surface to shatter under the force of the impact.
Kakashi’s eyes bulged at the size of the impact crater, his mouth twisting into an expression of shock. “What the hell Gaia!? Isn't that a little too excessive for just a duel!?”
The dark skinned Gaia merely snickered at the comment, her radiant silver eyes shimmering with delight.
“Duel or not, I’m training ya to face enemies in the real world fool, not like the tea parties you called dueling back before ya went on the lamb. No way ya gonna kill the fools that wiped out the Hyomaru if ya can’t even take me out!”
Kakashi growled at the statement, his blonde hair alight as a trickle of sunlight from the partly open roof cascaded off its surface. “You could’ve killed me with that, idiot!”
“Meh, if you died from a simple attack from that, then you’re not worthy ta be trainin’ under Hasami sensei.”
The pale faced Kakashi sighed at the logic, lowering the sad excuse for a stave he had been given to face the clearly more experienced Gaia Kobayashi. However, in no way was he giving up. After all, despite the circumstances that brought him here and the suspicion with which he viewed his new ‘protectors’, Kakashi was not fool enough to deny that these people had strength, strength that he could use to gain more power, enough power to decimate all that had a hand in the downfall of his family.
Avenging his mother, his father and his baby brother, these were his goals, goals he would seek to accomplish without mercy or rest.
It had been three days since Kakashi had arrived at the Hyomaru Compound, apparently one of several such compounds littered across the face of Japan and several regions in Malayasia, Russia and China. The blonde had been informed a few hours after arrival of the truth of his clan’s deep political history, of how deeply embroiled the Hyomaru were in an ancient power struggle to retain control over Asia, his clan being at the very forefront of gaining control over the entirety of the continent, this being the reason for the attack and subsequent decimation of the Hyomaru.
Among other things, he was also informed of the vast number of lesser clans and organizations that served the Hyomaru, one of those being the Shensen Sect, a religious authority led by Hasami-sensei a.k.a the elderly monk that had so warmly welcomed him when he had first arrived.
The strange rune like markings Kakashi had seen earlier inscribed onto the inner walls of the Stronghold was a testament to what he was informed.
There was a reason why they seemed so familiar. It wasn’t just because he had seen them before; it was because he had been here before.
As a child no older than six, his father had brought the Hyomaru scion all the way up to the mountainous stronghold that is the Hyomaru Compound. Kakashi had run across the very same hallways as a child, playing with his various toys blissfully unaware of the more dangerous facets of his clan.
Even the old man was a part of his childhood, Kakashi having spent hours alongside the elderly man brushing upon his knowledge of the more magical side of the world.
The story also explains how he was so miraculously saved from the Ghoul. Upon receiving information regarding the attack on the clan, the Sect had immediately sent through several of its elite members to safeguard and retrieve any surviving clan members to its mountain headquarters. Though several of the elite members had somehow been killed during the attempt, a few had managed to track him down as he attempted to escape from the Ghoul.
Thus was how Gaia and Bertrand had managed to find an unconscious Kakashi in the nick of time and save him from a gruesome death at the hands of the Ghoul, even managing to seemingly destroy the ancient apparition.
At first Kakashi was left speechless, seemingly unbelieving of the true width of influence and power his clan had once held. He was well aware his clan was quite influential and had a vast number of allies as his father had told him countless times, however, to be told that they were on the brink of achieving continental domination, well; it wasn't quite what he had expected.
‘Why didn’t father tell me of all this? Why didn’t anyone!?’ was a question he had asked himself countless times during the course of his stay with the Shensen, though no amount of endless pondering would bring him any closer to an answer.
“Kaka-baka!” roared Gaia, snapping the pale-skinned teen from his day dreams. “Bertrand’s here for ya with a message.”
As if on on queue, the large almost giant-like Bertrand Halifax appeared before Kakashi, his copper-brown face as emphatic as ever. “Hasami-sensei has requested your presence Kakashi-san.” informed the man, his expressionless face unmoving as he proceeded to lead the Hyomaru scion to the elderly monk.
“Well, I guess that’s the end of our duel. Come to me anytime kay blondie, I’ll be lookin’ forward to handing yo ass back to you.” stated Gaia with a wink and an impish grin before she trotted off leaving a fuming Kakashi alone with Bertrand.
Deciding not let the girl get the better of him, Kakashi proceeded to follow Bertrand to his summoning, wondering what Hasami could possibly want with him.
The old man had piqued the blonde’s interest as of late, especially concerning his lack of contact with him. Considering the fact that Kakashi was essentially the only remaining heir to the Hyomaru name and that the Shensen were essentially subordinates to his clan, shouldn't the leader of the Shensen take a more open disposition towards helping him train rather than avoiding him altogether.
In fact, the last time Kakashi had seen the cheerful monk was when he had first arrived to the Compound.
Now, summoning him out of the blue, it seemed strange to the blonde. But then again, a lot about his new home seemed strange to him.
A few moments later and the emerald eyed scion found himself seated next to Hasami within the cavernous interior that was the monk’s own personal meditation space, the sound of cascading water and the scent of spring filling his senses bringing forth the image of a glorious spring day sun emerging through the horizon.
Kakashi almost felt at peace, almost.
“I hope you’ve fully settled into your new quarters Kakashi-kun.” began Hasami.
“Yeah, I have. What did you call me for?” questioned Kakashi, unwilling to waste time with chatting. Unless the old man had anything useful for him, the pale faced teen was eager to get back to his dueling.
“Well Kakashi-kun, it’s quite simple really. I wish to fight you.”
The blonde nearly gaped at the old man’s words. “Um, thanks for the offer but I think I’ll stick to dueling with Gaia, or maybe even Bertrand.” stated the blonde, almost chuckling at the prospect of fighting a defenseless old man.
“Oh, I think you’ve mistaken my intentions Kakashi-kun, what I've asked of you isn't a request, it’s a statement.” said the elderly monk with a smile before all hell broke loose.
At that moment, as gale force winds buffeted his body and rods of lightning shrieked past his face, Kakashi began to wonder what kind of beast old man Hasami truly was.
o.o.o.o.o
The darkness in the room was stifling to the point where it was almost suffocating. Connix wondered how anyone could stand being in, let alone live in such an environment before he remembered, the man before wasn’t just anyone.
He emerged from the darker reaches of the room like a wraith, his brown hair and sharp features portraying the height of masculine beauty. However, nothing was more entrapping, more enamouring than the man’s piercing golden eyes that almost seemed to drown you in their endless reach. Despite the countless times he’d gazed into those bottomless golden pools, he could never acclimate himself to their power.
“Ah Connix, how are you old friend?” greeted the man with a raised hand.
“Fine, Lord Kurobe.” answered Connix as he grasped his hand in a firm, yet submissive handshake.
“Well, I do hope that our little pet has finished off the whole Hyomaru side of things and that we can continue on with our plans?”
Connix found that the words were caught in his mouth, his voice cracking with the strain it took him to voice out his thoughts. “S-sorry my Lord…the…the Ghoul failed…in its mission.”
The red haired Scotsman steeled himself in preparation for the expected backlash from his lord, though it never came. The man seemed the epitome of serene calm, unshaken by the news of his pet’s failure.
“Hmm, isn’t that quite the shame? Oh well, we must move on mustn’t we. Look to the future I always say.” said Kurobe with a chuckle.
Connix found himself quite confused and agitated at that moment, unbelieving of what had happened. In all his years of service under his Lord Kurobe, he had deduced quite a few things about the golden-eyed man’s personality quirks.
When Lord Kurobe simply shrugs off a failure of such magnitude, it could only mean one thing. It wasn’t a failure at all, and someone would most likely end up dead. And so the Scotsman swore to himself as he did quite often, to never, ever, find himself on his Lord’s dark side. Never.

It's been a fun ride so far, hopefully it'll stay that way! Anyways, I know I promised to explain everything about essences and what not, but sorry, yeah. Next chapter! Hopefully.
I just had too much I wanted to put in this one chap and in the end, it got too long for me to put in a long ass explanation about stuff. So yeah, pie!
