people think madara could sense only with hashirama's sage mode seriously now madara sensed sasuke when he looked back after sasuke used amaterasu and he blitzed naruto and sai with no sage mode.

you know madara is a sensor even before attaining hagoromo's chakra (when combining ashura and indra chakra) and ems madara without eyes can do this as aswell, even without eyes he can still use susanoo because a person like madara who is a master of his own power doesn't need eye's for certain techs but he would need eye's to tell the difference between the clones and mu's invisiblity since madara can possibly see him when he can completely erase his chakra signature.

one example madara mastering abilities on his first try is when he used kamui he mastered the MS tech that's not his and still used the ability flawlessly, the other one is when he used hashirama's wood release he mastered the wood dragon even while just testing the abilty, according to the 8 tails it was equal to alive hashirama and could be his sm form since hashirama doesn't like taking chances on tailed beasts like he told kurama he was too dangerous to roam free.
