I'm an analytical individual. It's both a blessing and a curse - for fiction, it means I'm very difficult to please.
While recently thinking on the apparent gap in ninja academy graduates and the observed ninja forces of the Leaf and other villages, I began wondering if we were missing something; roughly 12 graduates a year means 48 (we'll round to 50) Chuunin testers from the Leaf every four year test cycle. This is simply far too small a number to account for the number of Ninja seen in the Leaf.
So, I started wondering about the possibility of other classes being run concurrently with Naruto's.
One thing is interesting about Naruto's class:
Hinata: Hyuuga Clan. Head Family; Clan Successor.
Shino: Aburame Clan. Clan Successor.
Kiba: Inuzuka Clan. Head Family (Possible Successor?)
Chouji: Akimichi Clan. Clan Successor.
Shikamaru: Nara Clan. Clan Successor.
Ino: Yamanaka Clan. Clan Successor.
Sasuke: Uchiha Clan. Head Family (and sole viable successor)
Naruto: Uzumaki Clan. Son of Fourth Hokage; unknown family political status.
Sakura: Haruno... (are they even a clan?)
Everyone. Is. Nobility.
What are the odds, eh?
There are only two others that defy the trend:
Rock Lee
TenTen
Everyone else belongs to a clan with specialized jutsu and/or powerful political ties.
So, it occurs to me that there are characters with a history and lineage completely unexplored or explained (unless I've missed something important along the way... which isn't exactly impossible). Not only do we have our named characters within the Konoha 11 that have obscure pasts....
But there are also some 10,000 other ninja (assuming relatively equal ninja populations amongst the four nations each contributing to the 50,000 in allied ninja forces) who have, allegedly, passed through the ninja training academy and who report on teams directly to the Hokage.
What origins to characters like Lee, Tenten, and Sakura have (I realize Sakura has been the subject of anime supplemental episodes)?
And What is the explanation for the absolutely massive number of 'dark ninja' the Leaf seems to acquire out of thin air?
And/or ... why is everyone in Naruto's class a noble?
