The Danzo Problem

I never understood the whole concept of Danzo's madness. My friend is trying to tell me Danzo was a good guy but im almost sure he isnt. What i want to know is what was danzo after. If he was so evil why was he never branded an enemy to the leaf?

Danzo was the ultimate patriot. He would do anything to help the village be strengthened or be recognized. While Hiruzen was the "figurehead", he was leading ROOT to do all the nasty work.

He was the guy who did the dirty work for the leaf. He intentions for the leaf were good but his ways were very extreme .
His Acts seemed evil like what he did with Shisui and Itachi and His deal with Hanzo Kill the Ame Orphans.
So overall he was not totally evil but some of his actions were .

What i want to know is what was danzo after. If he was so evil why was he never branded an enemy to the leaf?

most of danzo's evil came to light after he tried to brainwash mifune for power. after that the jig was up and no one trusted him

i didnt know you could murder innocent people, brainwash your own men, and order the murder of unknowing uchiha children and still be called a good guy. maybe i should go in and kill your family, then brainwash you. you cant say shit about it because its for the good of the nation.

all danzo cared about was power. he would do anything for it. even let konha be wiped off the map and thousands of innocent people be slaughtered. even desecrate uchiha corpses. even team up with hanzo and orochimaru to overthrow hiruzen and destroy konoha
