The Courage to Be a Pervert.

In this thread I'll be doing my best to introduce you on; how adding or changing certain adjectives may change the meaning of something usually looked down upon, to something much more.. virtuous.

I saw this one episode of an anime not so long ago, where I myself got to experience how different something might seem by just adding certain adjectives to the sentece.

Let us look at the title of the thread "The courage to be a pervert", sounds lovely, doesn't it?! Well, compared to "To be a pervert" at least, no?
How come merely adding an adjective changes so much of the meaning??

Simple, the way the words are perceived by us and how we usually get into contact with it, decides how it looks in other combinations!

Let's try another one: "I am a f*cking pervert", now that doesn't sound very nice, at least not in your C.V., now add an adjective of your choice, for example "I am a f*cking courageous pervert". Sounds better!

The trick is to know when and where in the sentece to add it, because some sentences are more troublesome than others, so pick your battles carefully. Also, there are other adjectives which might make it sound even nobler/cooler etc.~ Note that this might not only be limited to adjectives.

Now, post your own examples and make this brat proud!

No, it worked alright, but you're just molesting the language.
You have to keep track on intention and what words goes along with it.

If the intention is to make the new sentence sound noble or better than the original/unmodified one, then you have to use words that sounds and feels noble/good. Think of this as you create your sentences~

Edit: I think I'll take on the challenge of your sentence after all: Let's say our intention is to make the sentence sound less grave. For this we can use gentler words, such as 'gently'. Let's try it out:
"I raped a woman", doesn't sound good at all; " I raped a woman gently", makes the whole thing less serious somehow!

it doesnt make it sound better or lovely, makes you sound dumb for trying to put courage and pervert together. a pervert is a pervert no matter what word you put in front of it all that matters in the sentence. if someone says i am a courageous, kind, good looking, loving, pervert. it still just translates into im a pervert, and makes the person saying it sound like they are trying to justify being a pervert to make themselves feel less guilty.

Nononon~ It does change the feel of it, in a stupid way indeed, though that is relative to what sentences and meanings you're trying to convey, so it's not always dumb, that's just your biased opinion.

Try changing a sentence with horrible contents, such as the one about 'raping a woman', then it will only look dumb, it isn't really a nice sentence at all and I feel as if the guy was 'trolling' anyways.

Try changing "I'm a fool" to "I'm a gentle fool" or "I'm a lovable fool," does not make it exactly sound any dumber, rather there is an implication of tenderness and care, I'm sure you get the difference.

You see, if you're only going to judge things that you see, then you will automatically be generalizing, excluding the cases which doesn't fall under you categorization. Hence, your assumption will be the one looked upon as "dumb"

Edit: Of course, I forgot that we shouldn't forget the kinds of intentions that are meant jokingly as well, that's another example of your generalization.
