Now let's be real, as much as it's funny to make fun of this famous quote I'm going to explain how legit it actually is despite being of one of the most nitpicked quotes in the manga.
First, I'd like you to read this story which helped me understand what Naruto meant, it's the story of King and Armor King from The tekken series.
You can skip it and go to the summary at the end if you don't want to read it all:
P.S I suggest you listen to this while reading for the feels

There was a a Mexican Masked wrestler or a luchador Called King
He was The Ideal good guy, as he wins the tournaments just so he can donate the prize money to orphans around the world, he built an orphanage and adopted children.
King had a Rival known as Armor King
Despite their rivalry both held mutual respect for each other and were very close friends.
When an orphan who was on King's care died due to illness, King fell into despair because he was unable to save him, he threw away his mask and became addicted to alcohol.
Armor King herd what happened from the orphanage.
Worried about his old friend, he went out in search of him and found him in an alleyway, mentally broken.
He threw King's discarded Mask at him and he managed to convince King to get back up with an even stronger fighting spirit than before, determined to work hard so he can prevent something like that from happening again.
King got back on the ring, stronger than ever and worked hard for all the children in the world.
King also trained the orphans on his care and taught them some of his moves.
More than 10 years, the Powerful Ogre, an extraterrestrial being left on earth from ancient times was awakened by Heihachi Mishima.
The beast went on a rampage, searching the globe for powerful martial artists to kill and absorb their souls, making himself stronger and stealing their moves on the process.
King was his first victim...
Everyone who cared about King was devastated by the news, Armor King was no exception.
A young orphan, upon hearing news of his mentor's death, donned King's jaguar mask and imitated his style under the King name in order to continue supporting the orphanage financially.
However, the new King was not on the same level as his mentor, and repeatedly lost every competition he entered.
Out of respect for his dead friend, Armor King visited the new King, introducing himself as an old friend. He decided to train this new King, who would become King II.
With armor King's training he surpassed his predecessor and carried his legacy.
King II then entered The King of Iron Fist Tournament 3 having many goals in mind:
-Testing his skills
-Winning the prize money to support the orphanage
-To find Ogre and avenge his predecessor.
He didn't accomplish his goals because another warrior beat him to the punch and got rid of ogre, but this didn't stop him as he the continued winning tournaments and supporting the orphanage and he celebrates all his victories with his master Armor king.
However...
Armor King was killed in a bar fight by a Vale tudo fighter Named Craig Marduk.
Marduk was Convicted for second-degree manslaughter, Craig was sentenced to ten years in the state penitentiary.
King discovered that his master Armor King had been killed in a bar fight. King swore revenge and learned that the perpetrator, Craig Marduk, was serving time in an Arizona State Penitentiary. Upon Marduk's release (thanks to bribes paid by King himself, from his pro wrestling business), King sent a plane ticket and article about The King of Iron Fist Tournament 4 to him. King waited for Marduk at the tournament.
King finally managed to make it through the rounds in the tournament and reached Marduk and he managed to defeat him, after that King left the tournament and didn't participate in the later rounds.
Meanwhile, Marduk had been hospitalized after his loss to King.
King went to the hospital to seek vengeance. Ready to deliver a final blow after reaching, he stopped after seeing a portrait of Marduk with his elderly parents on a medical tray next to his bed. Thinking about his own pain of loss, King put the photo on Marduk's chest and left, sparing him, realizing that revenge was not the answer.
After Marduk's recovery, He challenged King live on TV wearing a black jaguar mask, effectively taunting him as King found that as an insult to his master.
When King reached him, Marduk claims that he changed his ways and wants a fair battle with King.
King knows that Marduk, despite being responsible for Armor King's death, it was unintentional because Craig was drunk and he killed Armor King on accident.
Marduk lost this match and both found friendship through their battle as Marduk was willing to make amends and atone for killing Armor King.
King knowing that vengeance won't make anyone happy, he takes the road his master would've wanted him to take and together with Marduk they work hard to atone for their sins by helping children around the globe with the money they earn from pro wrestling championships as an unbeatable tag team.
Summary:
Even though Craig killed his mentor, King was strong enough to not take revenge on him and instead formed friendship with him so they can both work hard and atone for their sins and move forward.

Naruto already knows what obito had done, but because Naruto has an unbreakable will and a noble spirit, he's able to forgive Obito.
Maybe calling him the coolest guy was inappropriate but it's a misstranslation as he called him "nothing but awesome" which isn't exactly wrong as the real obito not the guy behind the mask already proved himself as he saved everybody's lives despite not gaining any in return because he's about to die.
He saved Naruto's life, Saved Sakura, Saved Sasuke from the desert dimension and sacrificed his life to save Them all again.
And even in death, he still helped team 7 and frankly speaking, they wouldn't have made it without his help.
If you don't think a person who does all that to atone as his time is running out an awesome guy, I'd like to know what your definition of awesome is.
So instead of misintercepting Naruto, you should give him props for having the spirit of a real shinobi and acknowledging the way obito died instead of how he lived.
