People talk about how characters like Naruto, Sasuke and Gaara had horrible lives. If you ask me however, the character who really has the worst back story is... the Shinju! The shinju totally got ripped off in life. Think about it:
You're just sitting there minding your own business, when some lady comes up and just yanks off a part of your body (fruit is technically anatomically a part of a tree. Chakara would be a part of the body too.). She then eats it and ultimately spreads your power and life force to the rest of her species (humans). You desperately try to take back what belongs to you, but the lady's son comes and seals you inside of his body! You are trapped there for many years! When he is finally about to die and you think you are about to be free, he takes your life force and splits it into 9 pieces.
You are now essentially an empty shell. As if that's not bad enough, your empty carcass gets tossed up into space and trapped in a giant rock for centuries! During your abscence, your 9 pieces get treated like crap. Hundreds of years later, some old guy (Madara) summons you back to Earth just to use you as his life support system!
Fortuneately, the old guy's student goes on to form an organization that will slowly but surely revive you and restore you to your former glory. After many more decades of waiting, you are finally revived during a war! You think that things are finally starting to look good for you, but you awaken only to find out that the two people who revived you actually just revived you so that you could be their pawn! The duo immediately jumps on top of you and starts controlling you! Furthermore, you find that you are actually still missing 2 of your 9 pieces!
You are then forced to fight an army. 4 dead guys then come and restrain you. Two kids try to burn you.
Midway through the battle, one of the guys who revived you comes and seals you inside of himself. This is the 2nd time that you have been trapped inside of someone! You try to fight back, but he over powers you! Later, those same two kids who tried to burn you try to split you back up into 9 pieces and a carcass once more while pulling your fragments out of the 2nd man that sealed you!
This has been the sad history of the Shinju! If you think that after this war, everyone who is in need of empathy and love will have received it, think again!
