Well Dragon Ball wasn't a kids thing until it hit up in America. The Android timeline could have been darker rather than Cell saga.

Yea it was kinda scary when cell first appeared. He attacked a circus or something and toyed with his victims in a mirror house.

The entire Android/Cell Saga was dark. From Trunks' timeline, we know what the future would look like if the Z heroes failed.
