The Mandala depicts the Womb realm and the Diamond Realm, where the 5 wise kings and the 5 wise Buddha reside. For those that don't know the mandala in esoteric buddhism represents the nature of the universe.

Interesting. Really great read. This may be a bit off topic but in YuYu Hakusho, one of the main villains, Shinobu Sensui has this thing thing on his forehead. It looks similar to the Eye of Enlightenment. Now, it never actually didn't anything but still very symbolic. The character attained god like powers through enlightenment, something that sheer effort alone wouldn't work.

Now in Naruto, it's a shame the third eye isn't really represented. I mean that it's resembalance was indicated in Tsunade but she's hardly enlightened. Obito's third tomae on his mask bears resembalance but it turned out that his motivations cast doubt on any form of deep enlightenment.

S06P should have it though. I mean, how can someone possibly defeat the Juubi through sheer effort alone without already having a Rinnegan? Before, he was just a human. A powerful one, but still human. I suspect that he got the powerup to a level where he could take on the Juubi, and he did it though enlightenment.
