Shin-Ah wears a horned skull mask over half of his face. He also has a big detachable fur piece that he usually attaches to the back of his mask, which covers his blue hair. He wears a black robe with white furs over his blue shirt.

Without the mask, he has a beautiful set of golden eyes identical to his late father.

Before leaving with Yona, he had two bells attached on the right horn of his mask, which he picked up when Ao became blind. The bell signifies Shin-Ah's longing to be found, and so was left behind.

Shin-Ah is very quiet and only speaks when he must, but he is also very kind. He lived in isolation in an already isolated village, so his social skills are completely backwards. He seems menacing upon first glance, but he is caring about his comrades and has gone so far as to use his abnormal strength to protect Yona.

When Shin-Ah was born, his mother killed herself out of fear after knowing the fact that she couldn't properly raise a child in the Bloody Mist's regime. He was left nameless and was only known as "the Seiryuu". He was then left in the care of a lonely elder named Ao in accordance to the village's law. They lived in isolation to avoid causing trouble to the villagers, but they often sneaked outside at night. Ao slowly began growing old and died when Shin-Ah was four years old.

The biggest piece of advice Ao gave Shin-Ah when he was young was to never use the power of ninjutsu to take lives. However, he was forced to ignore this advice when some mischievous outsiders came towards their village, making him annihilate them all. After this incident, the fearful villagers decided to move Shin-Ah to a more secluded location from there on out.

Before Yona and her group found him, he had no clue there were other people with the same desires to protect their comrades like him.
