I thought of this idea of Haki manipulation, tell me what you think of it.

So Haki users can apply Iron-like armor to various objects, right? And DF users have shown the ability to apply AH to their ability to intensify it's power such as Luffy with his rubber, and Doflamingo to his string. So, what if Logia users could apply a coating to their element to make it thicker and stronger?

I think this would be most beneficial and useful for Smoker. Because when you think of Smoke there are basically 2 forms of it. Black and white. The smoke that Smoker uses is base smoke, white smoke. Smoker hasn't shown that ability though. He's only shown white smoke, which is sort of like a Gear 1 for him. So my thought, is what if he could apply haki to his smoke, and make it black? This would come with a number of other perks such as making people actually cough (Idk why but people never cough around Smoker smoke. But in theory I guess its because his form of smoke is very tolerable), mess with their 5 senses and like I mentioned become thicker.

Since him and haki manipulation was JUST introduced to us last arc, I think Oda was more focused on developing other characters who were going to have a much more vital role in the upcoming arc, Law and Caesar because of where they are now. But next time around since he took such a beating on Punk Hazard I think Oda is going to reward us with this new ability of his and make him a lot stronger.

What do you think?

You really should treat others how you want to be treated, right?

OT: CoA coating on his smoke? That's interesting. It would make up for his weakness so I'm up for it. It sounds more defensive than offensive...

XD

OT, If Smoker were to utilize black smoke I would expect the smoke to be thicker and that way he could capture stronger opponents in his smoke just like he did to Buggy and Alvida in Log Town. Using a super thick smoke to trap ppl in a sphere of smoke that is similar to the thick clouds in Skypea would be awesome.

I don't think he's weak, but it can be used in both ways. Smoker is actually a more offensive character by default anyway

Exactly like that. Making clouds of smoke that would be similar to dark clouds when it's about to rain. He could do some real damage with that.

I like the idea but I think Smoker will just improve on his Haki now his CoA is actually really impressive and I think it will continue to get stronger now at a fast rate of course his experience and skill with his devil fruit will rise as well.

I think a better powerup would be the capability of manipulating toxic substances within the smoke if it gets inside peoples bodies via inhalation. Raising and lowering the temperature to extremes within the parameters of Smoke would allow him to freeze his Smoke into a Jitte or whatever weapon he sees fit, freeze burn and burn opponents too.

Really interesting i like this idea of haki manipulation. Props to you :)

But wouldn't this just make logia users even more hax than they already are?

I agree he should eventually have that, maybe it's grey though.
What if black smoke is just solid? Otherwise it would be hard to tell the difference between the two.

The smoke would still be smoke, just harder. Buso: Koka isn't an armor or a casing, it's just making something harder and tougher. That's why Luffy and Vergo, for example, retain flexibility when using Koka.

smoker has the worst logia df imo. it hasn't been shown that you can infuse haki into your logia element yet let alone armament hardening.

I don't get why it would be gray, anything Haki comes in contact with becomes a jet blackish color. And solid smoke is definitely possible.. he can probably do that right now, it's just learning to control his DF more and increasing the density

You would be able to tell the differences because of the color of the smoke and how the opponent reacts to it. You would hear dialogue like 'this is different' and 'I can't see/smell etc'. Also it would do more damage.

But Rayleigh described it as an armor. There are different terms to describe it, it's not meant to be taken literally as something that will slow you down or put on weight... just in the function that it helps defend attacks. In order to do that it becomes harder but it can be applied to different applications

I'm not saying it has to be grey, it's just the nearest thing I could think of.
And why would it coming into contact with Haki suddenly make cause it to make people cough and sh*t? o_O

Good point XD completely went over my head when it came to dialogue.

Yeah I know, but I think that's the basic form of Armament. Like, one is a coating, and the other is infusing it into your flesh or object your holding, giving it it's steel-like strength and black color.

Remember what everybody first said about Luffys DF? :p and just because it hasn't been shown doesn't mean it's not possible.

It is also important to understand that the Moku Moku fruit is a fruit of strategy and tactic, rather than destruction and simple fighting purposes, and that characters develop attacks based on their personality complexes. Smokers complex is a white hunter so that's what most of his attacks revolve around.

What do you think of my idea though?

Ignore Mamba, I think Smoker's fruit suits him well.

And I like it, if Haki can be embedded into Logia attacks, then I see it happening.
