Maka from Soul Eater. Easily the best female protagonist. All Soul Eater females were very well written and deverse. They all had spotlight on them at times (everyone got it), played major roles, and really fulfilled everything I think a female character should be. Medusa was my favorite female villain in Soul Eater.

It was stated in the manga that Soul couldn't do shit by his own, hell, most of weapons can't do $hit at their own, that's why they need meisters. And btw, Maka was the only one who could stand the call of madness, which was big deal in Soul Eater...just saying.
