When we first met obito he was tobi. He looked like an like a clown ninja. Later we find out him to be the defacto leader behind a powerful ninja group that can take out villages with a flex of there charkra. Then we find out later that he is Madara and he help itachi take out the most powerful ninja clan. Then he starts the 4th ninja war and maniplates another ninja that could be more powerful than him to ressurect powerful zombie ninja warriors to take down his enemies.
Also he uses those zetzu clones to copy the ninja alliance to cause distrust among his ememies. Forcing Naruto his target to come out of hiding. The reason why Obito was able to these things because of the mask. That mask made him seem like an untouchable ninja. Plus the name madara. When naruto broke his mask he lost that deception and he had became human vulnerable and can be defeated. Do you agree ?
