No matter which brilliant strategies they used, Obito still made the Juubi mature into its final form... All of their plans, including what Shikaku came up with, were basically useless! They didn't delay anything, didn't kill Obito or destroy Madara. It's like Kishi could have just skipped all those stages and get straight to what is happening now.

They tried to trap Juubi, it got out. They tried to cut Madara and Obito off Juubi, didn't help. They landed some OP attacks on Obito, he carried on anyway. It would make sense if they gradually weakened Obito/Juubi or planted timebombs/Chekhov's guns or something, but it doesn't seem to be the case.

Things will obviously be solved in the FINAL EPIC BATTLE but everything preceding it so far seems kinda pointless now.

I think that is to reference Nagato's words about how meaningless war is.

He warned Naruto that he would have to deal with the senselessness of war one day and that day has come, he has to learn how to overcome what he is trying to end.

No, that would just be taking it to a different extreme.

The only people who are useful on the battle field (on Naruto's side) are:

Naruto
Sasuke
Edo Hokage
Orochimaru
Gokage - when they get there
Killer Bee - although he hasn't done anything for a while
Gai - 8 gates will be useful next time he busts it out
Kakashi - when he gets back, his Kamui will be helpful

Everyone else is fodder and in the way, forcing Naruto to protect them.
