Chapter 19: A Demon Spectating!
Momura Rouzuke was still in his Cursed Form along with a blank-faced Saito Hibiki, watching over Uchiha Sasuke’s recovery with the original White Zetsu. With his Byaringan activated, he could see through the numerous lands that the battles have taken place. Indeed, the Fourth Shinobi World War has started, and he was stuck inside the cave, waiting for commands from an untrustworthy masked man, Tobi.
Sasuke has become irritable over time, grumbling about how much longer he will have to endure to see the world with his ‘new eyes’. White Zetsu simply responded that Madara will remove the bandages when his eyes have fully healed. Rouzuke tried to ignore the crap, yet he became alert when he an evil disturbance followed by a choking noise. He immediately ran towards the next chamber, only to be shocked by the scene.
Sasuke has White Zetsu in the Susano’o hand, squeezing the creature mercilessly. He removed the bandages just as he killed off the original White Zetsu, setting his attention towards Rouzuke and Hibiki. He smirked with malice, contemplating on the fact that his eyes can see everything, even the past that was etched from the eyes of his late older brother, Uchiha Itachi.
“I see. So you’re Itachi’s younger brother,” Rouzuke commented, apparently amused with this new information. “No wonder you looked remarkably like him. But I’m not going to stop you, nor would I even care about your shit, since I’m only a part of this group for my own reasons.”
“You scum,” Sasuke was infuriated, his Eternal Mangekyo Sharingan eyes glowing with hatred. “How dare you mention my brother’s name without respect? DIE!”
Amaterasu flames erupted from his eyes to Rouzuke, who didn’t bother to move yet guarded with his right arm. The arm was on fire, yet Hibiki easily extinguished it with his Mangekyo Sharingan, surprising and taunting Sasuke’s temper even more
“Another man benefits from my clan’s power!” Sasuke yelled, so crazy and delirious that it made Rouzuke cringe. “You will thank us of the Uchiha, by dying!”
Sasuke’s Susano’o made the first move, deliberately attempting to knock out Rouzuke with one hit. However, Rouzuke activated his own Susano’o and blocked the heavy punch, clearly popping several nerves from Sasuke’s temples.
“That’s it! You’ve become a disgrace to me!” Sasuke shrieked, spamming more Amaterasu flames from his Susano’o while throwing more devastating blows. “No one uses the Sharingan eyes except those from our bloodline!”
“You’ve become too attached to your clan, brat,” Rouzuke replied, still manoeuvring and dodging the attacks. Just as he bent down to avoid one of the Susano’o punch, he countered by kicking Sasuke hard out of the cave successfully. “Now get the **** out of here, before I really kill you!”
Sasuke knew from the assault that the man’s skills should not be tested. Instead, he deactivated his Susano’o and proceeded blindly into the warzone. Rouzuke and Hibiki watched the Uchiha survivor wander out to the open.
“I guess we’ll just have to stay put,” Rouzuke declared, even though he knew that Hibiki won’t respond. “Gotta know where we can actually help and win the war with one attack.”
Both sat down in a cross-legged position, and began to observe the ensuing battles. It appeared that in one area, both ambush squadrons have already engaged in combat, with the opposition side close to winning. Hatake Kakashi and the Third Division including Sora Hitomi have proceeded into the encounter against Gari, Pakura, Haku and the Seven Ninja Swordsmen of the Mist, a scene where Rouzuke merely grinned as he remembered the days when he fought those deceased members to the death. He noticed that Mu, the Second Tsuchikage, had summoned the Second Mizukage, Third Raikage and Fourth Kazekage in one of the desert locations, within the range of the current Kazekage, Gaara of the Desert, with the Fourth Division on standby. Darui and the First Division were also in the verge of winning against the White Zetsu Army, yet were halted in their victory as they bumped into the Gold and Silver Brothers, along with Dan, Sarutobi Asuma, Hyuga Hizashi and Kakuzu.
The Second Division seemed to have problems in dealing with the White Zetsu clones along the Land of Lightning’s peninsula, aided by reinforcements from the Fifth Division. Rouzuke’s smile widened as he saw thousands of more clones slip underneath their battlefield. The Surprise Attack Division, upon winning against the opposing ambush squadron, was intercepted by Chukichi’s team consisting of Hanzo, Chiyo, and Kimimaro, and appeared to have engaged in combat as well, with the commander of the Fifth Division, Mifune blocking the first move. Black Zetsu has already found the daimyo hideout and was forced to face Terumi Mei and the Daimyo Protection Squad.
“It seems that everyone’s having fun,” Rouzuke finally spoke just as he stood up to stretch. “I suppose that we can wreak havoc in one of those confrontations. However, there’s something else that I worry about.”
He looked at the horizon, feeling bad about joining an organization to which he never really swore allegiance to. He was watching as the war raged on around him. The breeze tickled his face, a hint of peace that will sooner or later come to the world. He was thinking of joining the ranks of Kinkaku and Ginkaku, but as Kinkaku was defeated and Ginkaku transformed into a pseudo-Jinchuriki state, his left arm seemed to resonate with the reaction; the seal read ‘Nine’, and chakra began to emanate from it uncontrollably, making Rouzuke tighten the seal and dispersing the leaking chakra.
“Huh, it appears that I’m not the only one who’s storing weird chakra masses in my body,” Rouzuke said, relieved that his ordeal was a short term one. He returned to his seating position and assumed a meditating posture, in an attempt to harvest more Nature chakra. “I guess I’ll just have to wait a bit more for the next fight to happen.”
As he gathered tremendous amounts of Sage chakra, Hibiki continued to spectate upon the simultaneous battles. At one point, they both immediately felt Uzumaki Naruto and Killer Bee’s chakra signatures from out of nowhere, with the chakra inside Rouzuke’s left arm resonating with them yet again. By that time, most of the divisions have already won against their respective oppositions, although there were some who were still engaged in combat, having difficulty with sealing their opponents.
Tobi, it seems, have decided to summon the Demonic Statue of the Outer Path, which both Akimichi Choji and Choza tried to fight against but were easily defeated. Tobi obtained the Crimson Gourd and Amber Purifying Pot during the commotion, and finally unsummon the Demonic Statue from battle. The events have become detrimental for the Shinobi Allied Forces, and they were on the edge of losing the battle when Naruto and his clones, all of whom were in the Nine-Tails Chakra Mode, managed to save them all at once, just as he and Killer Bee somehow won the skirmish against Uchiha Itachi and Nagato, with Itachi breaking away from the Impure World Resurrection contract.
A day has already passed, and Rouzuke still hasn’t moved from his post. Hibiki was also as rigid as ever, standing as still as a boring rock. Sasuke came in contact with Itachi, following him towards Kabuto’s hideout. By this time, the Five Kages have begun their battle against the real Uchiha Madara while Naruto and Killer Bee were pitted against Tobi, the Demonic Statue and the new Six Paths of Pain consisting of the six late Jinchuriki, all of whom were sporting a Sharingan on the right eye and a Rinnegan on their left.
Rouzuke still hasn’t decided which battle he should be barging into. He noticed that Hitomi was looking for Hibiki even as the war raged on. The Kage have already weakened from Madara’s unexplainable power, just as Kabuto had already transformed into the Dragon Sage and proceeded into combat. Naruto and Killer Bee were also having difficulties trying to outwit Tobi, just as Kakashi and Maito Guy came to the rescue, mowing down the reanimated Jinchuriki.
Rouzuke was surprised as he saw Kabuto immediately become prey to Itachi’s new technique that quickly dispatched the enemy into submission. Tobi’s Jinchuriki force was also weakened as Naruto erupted with his Tailed Beast Mode, which amused Rouzuke once more, along with expressing superiority with his Tailed Beast Bomb versus the combined power of the Six Paths Jinchuriki. Tobi seemed to be unhappy about this and he was already at his patience’s limit that Rouzuke decided to butt in.
However, Itachi’s technique proved to be fatal to their Moon’s Eye Plan and the war itself, as he forced Kabuto to release the binds of the Impure World Resurrection Summoning, which dispelled most of the reanimated corpses except for Madara himself, who undid himself from the contract, amazing Rouzuke with the feat along with the Five Kages.
“Well, the war’s too damn short for the plan to actually take effect,” Rouzuke announced, finally activating his Demon Sage form followed by his Susano’o. He turned to face Tobi’s general direction. “This battle is far from over. I want to win this war for the sake of my masterpiece!”
Meanwhile, in one of the forests near the Daimyo hideout, another man was fighting against a gauntlet of factions of White Zetsu clones, using two monstrous blades chained on each hand. He was a bald and a bearded man, with red marking spiralling from his head to his well-built left arm. He was extremely muscular, and showed no signs of fatigue even as the war went on. His weapons flew around like demons, cutting and burning each clone they come in contact with. Yet with each decapitated clone, another took its place and continued to push forward.
“DIE! DIE YOU MOTHER****ING PIECES OF SHIT!” the man growled as he sliced and diced his foes. “NO MATTER HOW MANY YOU FREAKS ARE, I, TOSU KUREI, WILL KILL ALL OF YOU!”
His blades burned a deep scarlet, which singed and set the clones and nearby trees on fire. He decided to switch weapons, sheathing his current ones and summoning a new pair from his wrists wrapped with summoning seals. The new weapon was a pair of huge knuckle gloves that resembled two lions’ heads, and it was made of pure gold, glimmering against the light of the frolicking flames around him. As one of the clones slipped past his guard, he managed to counter it with a quick blow that caused the clone to explode into smithereens. The others were blasted out of the game as well, all who have been hit being reduced to bits and pieces. Kurei stashed the gloves out of sight and pulled out a large and heavy sword that illuminated a blue light.
“EAT THIS YOU WEAK BITCHES!”
Kurei leapt from the ground and slammed the sword downward creating a catastrophic earthquake that eliminated the rest of the factions and that certain portion of the forest. All of the White Zetsu clones were killed with such a powerful assault.
There seemed to be no one left to fight in the area, and Kurei unsummoned his weapon. He noticed that another fight had transpired from a location just a few yards from him. Just as he was planning to embark on a journey towards the spot, a kunai went speeding to his head. In one fluid motion, he summoned his two fiery blades and parried the projectile perfectly, then quickly sent one of them towards the origin of the kunai. A few moments later, he heard a bloodcurdling scream followed by more frantic shouting just as he pulled back the chains and retrieved his blade.
“An enemy! He’s not a shinobi from any of the Five Countries!”
“He killed Kenisu! He’s definitely an enemy! Eliminate him!”
“The enemy will be severely punished for this! Charge, Leaf Shinobi! Attack!”
Kurei realized that he unintentionally murdered an ally. Without another thought, he crouched down, as though he was being sick. His back seemed to be breaking, with the skin wobbling horrifically then finally releasing a pair of black feathered wings coated with sinister chakra. The shinobi squad arrived in time to marvel at the sight, letting Kurei escape from their arrest.
“Close call,” he muttered, somehow feeling guilty about his deed. “I should be more careful then.”
He turned his attention towards a gathering spot wherein there was a large statue with many eyes with other large creatures fighting a bull-octopus and a chakra form of a fox. The scene piqued his interest and immediately flew towards the conflict on a whim.
“If that is the statue which can grant me the power to control time,” he thought aloud while grasping his blades tighter. “Then I will be able to do it, after many years of searching this world for answers.”
The war had almost finished, yet Madara was able to survive the release of the Impure World Summoning Technique and Tobi was already cornered with his loss of the Six Paths Jinchuriki. Most of the reanimated corpses caught by the Five Divisions have already perished. Tsunade was saved by Dan’s soul, and the Five Kage seemed to have no more chance of winning against Madara himself.
Tobi had summoned the Crimson Gourd and Amber Purifying Pot which were soon devoured by the Demonic Statue. Kabuto was defeated, and Orochimaru was revived by Sasuke. The war seemed to have taken an anti-climactic situation.
Kurei was already near the battlefield of Naruto and Tobi when his wings suddenly shrunk back to his body and sent him falling fast to the ground. He landed safely, though his landing made a large crater from his apparent weight. He saw from where he stood the situation of the brawl, and understood why his wings disappeared involuntarily. The statue was sucking in all of the evil chakra surrounding the area, which meant that his chakra was gradually being depleted.
Just as he was thinking of retreating, he saw two more men enter the battle on the masked man’s side. The statue was going haywire, clutching its stony head as though in deep agony. Kurei decided to confront them with determination.
Naruto and Killer Bee sensed three new presences which sent chills down the Eight and Nine Tails’ spines. Both watched warily as the men entered the field, one clutching two flaming swords menacingly while the two were holding nothing. Rouzuke and Hibiki stared at the newcomer just as Kurei did to them. The heat of the battle sunk as they tried to identify each other’s chakra.
“It seems that you’ve already gathered the Tailed Beasts,” Rouzuke spoke to Tobi, breaking the awkward silence while Hibiki continued to eye Kurei with a blank expression. “And this is what I suppose you intend to revive the Ten Tails?”
“Yes, Momura,” Tobi replied, still concentrating on balancing the chakra for the statue. “So, are you here to assist me? Or did you just come to spectate on the whole war?”
“Hey! That statue! Can I speak to it?” Kurei interrupted, oblivious to the fact that the statue was only animated by the swirling masses of chakra in them. “I must take its power, to return to my home!”
Tobi and Rouzuke were both amused at Kurei’s statement. Rouzuke saw from his eyes that Kurei’s chakra flow was irregular and uncommon. This sparked his interest to fight Kurei head-on.
“You’ve got a weird brain, dipshit,” Rouzuke retorted, apparently fooling around with Kurei. “This statue won’t grant you wishes, dumbass. However, I have no time to lose, as I want this war to be won by the Akatsuki already, so that my masterpiece will be over with.”
Kakashi and Naruto recognized Rouzuke’s voice over his new appearance. He was still in his Cursed Form along with Hibiki. Guy and Killer Bee were both confused with the current conversation.
“How dare you,” Kurei was ready to rampage. “HOW DARE YOU INSULT ME, YOU LOW LIFE?”
Kurei immediately lashed his blades towards Rouzuke, though Hibiki quickly deflected the swords with ease. Hibiki threw three kunai towards Kurei, Naruto and Kakashi’s directions. Just as they dodged the projectiles, Hibiki teleported to their positions simultaneously and proceeded to attack with a Fire Release technique, while Rouzuke dashed forward and left Tobi to his devices.
Rouzuke unleashed his Susano’o and began to run amok at Naruto, who was immediately aided by the Nine Tails, thus able to avoid damage both from Rouzuke and Hibiki. Hibiki was able to touch Naruto’s left sleeve a few moments before. The Eight Tails noticed yet didn’t speak, as his host proceeded to counter Hibiki’s multiple attacks on Naruto.
As the fight went on, Kakashi saw that Kurei left the field and decided to engage Tobi in combat, blades glowing with dangerous embers, fast approaching the enemy like a speeding bullet. He saw that Tobi was ready for the hit and managed to parry Kurei’s attempt to damage him with the large fan. But Kurei won’t let that get him easily, as he unleashed his chains and attached the hooks to his blades, then began swirling them above him like a fiery hurricane and ending the routine by flinging the swords towards Tobi. Kakashi knew that it wouldn’t work, yet he acted on impulse and used Kamui on one of the gleaming blades just as the other passed through Tobi.
As soon as Tobi rematerialized, Kurei landed a blow to the former’s face, with the hem of the enemy’s cloak appeared to have been singed, which was a sign that Kakashi duly noted. He then turned back to avoiding attacks from different directions, what with the surprising moves that both Rouzuke and Hibiki have been throwing, both darting around, determined in killing the opposition slowly.
Rouzuke withdrew while weaving hand seals, a signal for Kakashi to try using his Kamui again. He drew himself out of the line of fire, his left eye targeting Rouzuke, and simultaneously watching out for stray projectiles. Hibiki was quickly overpowering Guy, Naruto and Killer Bee with his Swift Release, though noticed that Rouzuke was in danger from Kakashi’s eye technique. In a span of a second, he made a clone that went for Kakashi while the real body was still engaged in holding off the opposing forces.
Just as Kakashi was ready for the kill-
“Watch out, Kakashi!” Guy yelled out the warning, but it was too late.
The clone Hibiki punched Kakashi hard, sending the technique off-course, to Tobi and Kurei’s area instead. Kurei’s Lightning Release from his gold-plated knuckle weapon was about to hit Tobi when the Kamui hole opened and sucked the technique in. Kurei followed up with summoning a demon cloaked in fire which went for Tobi’s head. The attack passed through yet again, but as the mask materialized, a part of it was chipped, followed with a spark of electricity. Kakashi realized that Tobi indeed was just using one simple technique. At the same time, Rouzuke unleashed more flashy combinations of his Kekkei Genkai on Naruto and Killer Bee.
“Steel Release: Senbon Shower! Kunai Stalagmites! Shuriken Salvo!”
Ninja tools flew from all directions, yet none had done any serious damage. Rouzuke reeled in Hibiki to his side, just as the other side withdrew to collect themselves. The field fell silent again. Kakashi was sweating, and Naruto easily noticed his mentor’s uneasiness. Kakashi explained the situation regarding Tobi’s technique which prompted Naruto to make a hasty plan to unmask Tobi using the recent development. Kurei was within earshot and offered to help, despite the fact that he was a stranger.
“Who are you? What do you want?” Kakashi asked Kurei firmly, apparently distrusting any stranger in the field. He was eyeing Rouzuke and Hibiki with caution.
“I am Tosu Kurei, a time traveller,” Kurei started, ignoring the questioning stares. “I do not know why I am here, yet I must return to my land. And that statue will be able to grant me that very wish.”
“I don’t know about that last one,” Killer Bee interjected. “But you will help us out, won’t ya?”
Kurei merely nodded in affirmation. All eyes went towards Tobi going to where Rouzuke and Hibiki were standing. All three of them didn’t budge nor did they talk amongst themselves for a counter plan. Naruto made a Shadow Clone and proceeded to attack, with Guy, Killer Bee, and Kurei following him suit.
“It seems that they’ve got a new strategy,” Rouzuke began, appearing to be amused. He deactivated his Demon Sage Form as well as his Susano’o, just as he activated the seal on his left arm. The spiral red lines on the arm read ‘Nine’. Black seals started to spread on his body, readying himself to release his Cursed Seal of Hell form. “Now this is when it gets interesting.”
To be continued...
