Chapter 10: Gaara versus the Demon Part 2

“Gaara,” Temari started, as Gaara prepared for the next assault. “We can’t do this for much longer!”

“No,” Gaara spoke while trying his hardest to mold more chakra into his sand to shield them from Rouzuke’s attacks. “This battle, I have to fight this man for our victory. The nearing war is for Uzumaki Naruto and Killer Bee’s safety! We cannot let ourselves come first!”

“But Gaara,” Kankuro interjected, trying to knock in some sense to Gaara. “We will die at any rate, if this continues!”

Gaara looked at both of them, while managing to guard against most of their opponents’ slashes. His face showed his determination that shook both Temari and Kankuro into submission to his will.

Temari, Kankuro and Gaara assumed a defensive position, with their backs facing each other. Gaara used more sand waiting to guard against most melee attacks. Kankuro sent out chakra threads to the remaining fragments of his puppets, in an attempt to distract their opponent, while Temari looked from her line of sight, ready to send out searing winds to hit their foe.

Yet they were still too slow for the speeding enemies, who attacked the surrounding Sand shinobi with haste, emitting sparks and fluttering dust and sand in their wake. Because of the hurt shinobi’s screams, Gaara got detracted from his concentration, which was meant to be for his defeat. Rouzuke saw through this opening, released his clone then darted towards Gaara while his mechanical weapon appeared to detach itself from the mechanism and the chakra poles disappeared. He flung the blades to Gaara, and hit its mark.

Blood spattered on the ground as Temari and Kankuro weren’t looking, and Gaara’s shock was evident from his dilating eyes as he stared at the two blades impaling him through his stomach and right shoulder. Quickly, Rouzuke stepped in for the kill, before the two could even notice their comrade’s bleeding body, kicking Gaara hard in the face upwards as Rouzuke grabbed and pulled his weapons from Gaara’s body, sending Gaara flying to the air.

It was too late for Temari and Kankuro to support Gaara, as both were cut down by Rouzuke in one swift motion, sending both falling on the earth wounded. Rouzuke then proceeded to crouch low, preparing to jump towards Gaara, whose sand can’t keep up with his continuing ascent.

Rouzuke launched up in the air, and started to combine his two blades back to back, thus forming a broadsword which started to crackle with Lightning Release chakra. Gaara somehow snapped out of his shock and saw his nemesis fast approaching. Their ascent started to slow down, and the sand finally caught up with Gaara, who formed a thick ball of armor just in time as Rouzuke slashed for the kill.

Rouzuke wasn’t done yet, as he flung his broadsword in the air and grabbed his two main weapons, combining the Fang Blade and Dragon Sword back to back, and then detaching the two broadsword blades, which he locked back in place to his mechanical gauntlets. The Fang Blade’s gun muzzle started to produce a black streak of lightning that formed into a blade similar to a scythe.

“Tremble!” Rouzuke yelled as he raised his weapon, with the scythe-like protrusion held high, ready for another attack. “This is my final attack capable of disintegrating anything, DRAGON FANG EXPLOSION!”

Gaara foresaw to the attack and immediately sent his sand under his feet, enabling him to fly and evade the rushing opponent. The attack missed him by inches, but he realized that it wasn’t him who Rouzuke was trying to attack this time, but the Sunagakure itself. Gaara’s miscalculation sent him desperately trying to avert Rouzuke’s attention from the village to himself instead. But his falling speed can’t keep up with Rouzuke’s. In a few more moments, Sunagakure will be no more.

BAM!

Rouzuke’s Dragon Fang Explosion attack met an obstacle that prevented him from hitting the ground. The scythe-like protrusion’s point seemed to have hit something indestructible. Smoke and dust flew and obscured the surroundings. A familiar hum was heard. Even Gaara thought that his beloved village was done for. It was to his surprise that Rouzuke was still suspended in the air, his weapon clashing against something, halting his attack. Gaara landed on the ground just behind Rouzuke and in front of the village entrance.

Gaara used this moment as an opportunity to launch another barrage of sand shuriken at Rouzuke, who easily saw through the motion and broke from the obstacle then slashed at Gaara instead. The scythe-like protrusion made a visible shockwave that easily disintegrated the shuriken and quickly darted to Gaara’s position.

Gaara noticed that through the smokescreen, there was a familiar blue ball of light within that he assumed to be the thing emitting the humming sound. He wasn’t ready for dodging, as he already sustained too many injuries. As the crescent wave seemed to hit him, in that precise moment, a darting and glowing projectile hit it instead and derailed it from its original path. The projectile hit the earth with a clang. Gaara realized that it was a naginata.

Rouzuke was already darting towards Gaara as well when something appeared to hit him in the stomach from the left, sending him rotating inside a chakra sphere towards a nearby wall, creating a deafening explosion.

“Spiralling Sphere,” an unknown figure muttered. “It’s good that I’ve learned that from my master before he died.”

“You,” Rouzuke said, as he somehow recovered from the blow. He managed to block the attack barely with his weapon, yet he was shaken by the interception. “Who the hell are you, interfering with my plans?”

The unknown figure walked towards Gaara, who had already knelt in pain and exhaustion. The figure gave him a small leather pouch which contained pills of some sort.

“Eat it,” the figure mentioned, and turned towards Rouzuke. “It’ll restore most of your chakra, and heal most of your wounds. Give some to your comrades as well.”

“Who are you?” Gaara asked, as he helped himself to one of the pills which instantly gave him strength. “Did the Hokage send you here?”

The sky have transformed into an orange tinge. The clouds have thinned as well. The figure just pulled the naginata from the ground to his back and walked calmly towards Rouzuke, leaving Gaara to his devices.

“Momura Rouzuke,” the figure spoke, making Rouzuke start at the mention of the name. “You’re a wanted criminal, dangerous to the Shinobi World, and even a nuisance for the Five Countries. Your simple motive to forge a weapon seems to be more of bullshit in comparison to your actions.”

“You,” Rouzuke began, as he somehow recognized his attacker’s face. “You’re that kid from that forest.”

“I do have a name,” the figure stated, somehow irritated at Rouzuke. “Saito Hibiki’s the name, and for now, bounty-hunting is my game!”

Rouzuke laughed cruelly, sending the hairs up Hibiki’s neck stand on end. The former just stood straight, disconnected his two weapons and slung both on his back, wrapped in linen again.

“Really now,” Rouzuke retorted, still assessing his current situation. “And I thought you were of Uchiha descent. Then again, the Sharingan has become a common stolen Bloodline in this world. It’s been a while since I’ve fought against Sharingan users, making you the fourth one.”

He assumed a pouncing stance that made Hibiki pull out his weapon and crouch in a defensive position. Rouzuke’s Twin Slasher slided into position as well, his hands clutching tightly on the handles and ran his chakra through the blades. Hibiki did the same to his naginata and pulled his blindfold away, revealing his Sharingan eyes.

“I’m the fourth Sharingan user you say you’ve fought so far,” Hibiki replied, trying to wring out information from Rouzuke. “I’m assuming that the other three were from the Uchiha clan, am I correct?”

Before Rouzuke can reply to the question, a speeding sand spear shot towards him yet he reacted to it instantly, parrying the pronged spear with his right blade. Much to his surprise however, when the spear, upon contact with his blade, started to spread instead around him in an attempt of capturing him. He can’t escape as Gaara had already placed sand under his feet and caught Rouzuke off guard, rendering him prey to his Sand Coffin.

The sand have enveloped Rouzuke completely as Hibiki stood his ground, ready for any escape attempts.

“Wanted criminal, Momura Rouzuke,” Gaara spoke, as the sand seemed to have hardened in its position, holding Rouzuke captive inside. “You shall not harm another person from now on.”

Cliff hangers...such a drag...:D Well, either Rouzuke is finally defeated...or he makes an escape somehow. I guess we'll just have to wait and see...
AHAHAHHAHAHA "such a drag..." You've maintained Shikamaru's character in your profile =)) What I meant in one post was that I'd be rather slower in writing, as my school life for now will be rather demanding, so the posts will be longer and the dates of posting will be farther. Just a hint: in the next chapter, a bit of Rouzuke and Hibiki's historical accounts will be revealed. :D
