Sorry then you must not be aware of good literature :') I kindly disagree, if it were planned all along then Kishimoto should've done a common necessary thing called foreshadowing. There should've been one or two hints- like we had with Tobi and the Madara business. It was a twist that came out of nowhere and it was all so much to take in so quickly that I really doubt it was planned that much further ahead.

I said in all of Naruto not literature... anyway..

"You and I are flesh and blood. I'm always going to be there for you, even if it's only as an obstacle for you to overcome. Even if you do hate me. That's what big brothers are for."

"People live their lives bound by what they accept as correct and true. That's how they define "reality". But what does it mean to be "correct" or "true"? Merely vague concepts… their "reality" may all be a mirage. Can we consider them to simply be living in their own world, shaped by their beliefs?"

Yep no hints at all..

No foreshadowing comes before the reveal, meant to come long before the reveal to be effective really, it's a common sign of good writing. Good little extract you found there but the fact that it literally happens a chapter or 2 before the reveal shows more signs that it was a quickly thought up plot twist at the last minute.

Itachi was only shown a handful of times. There was the first time he was shown in Konoha when he fought Kaskashi and later Naruto, a bunch of flashbacks, once to sasuke and once to Naruto then he was dead how can you extrapolate anything from those times when they were mostly flashbacks?...

In Part 1 why didn't he kill Kakashi? Why would he leave some of his power to Naruto before fighting Sasuke? Above all why didn't he kill Sasuke? That whole measuring his capacity was sooooo lame...

Not much lamer than the whole convoluted Uchiha/Konoha politics bulsh*t they tried to throw at us all of a sudden, I always just imagined that Itachi only wanted to fight him when he could get some fun out of it. That's how I saw it, and to be honest he was more fun and interesting as the evil psycho guy.

Corrected some stuff

Getting a little tired of all the neverending Itachi praising. Sorry- here's the ACTUAL Itachi story. Ahem.

1. Was born the ultra gifted, talented, perfect son with his life on a plate for him.
Ok
2. Being a child growing up in a war messed him up.
Ok
3. Betrays family as a double agent.
You forgot the part where he was enlisted into the Anbu Ops swearing to protect the village at all cost
4. Has to murders all of the innocent people.
Yes those innocent people who were planning on overthrowing konoha and taking control
5. Fails to murder all of the innocent people.
The only person he couldnt kill he little brother
6. Screws up his little brother by torturing him with genjutsu, leaving him in a village full of psychopaths, letting him go to Orochimaru- all part of a plan that obviously wasn't going to work.
If he hadnt became the bad guy then people would suspect why such a notable genius who would never hurt a fly and always did right would break bad. And so he had to do what he had to do to back up the story of him killing the villagers out of spite. He wanted to keep the fact that the uchiha were planning a coup de tat at all costs. Also Sasuke going to Orochimaru wasnt part of his plan, but at the same time he knew orochimaru wouldnt kill sasuke before preparing his body and training him, also knowing that he would have to wait some time before he could use the body possesion jutsu again.
7. Dies due to chakra loss, also a plan that involves you dying at the end isn't a great plan just saying.
Actually it is the best part of his plan. He ends his charade by dieing a martyrs death taking all his secrets to his grave. And with that sasuke's vengence would be complete and he would have gone back to konoha. The only problem was Tobi.
8. BULLSH*T PLOT TWIST ITACHI IS A GOOD GUY THIS WHOLE TIME (bad writing Kishi)
You think that it actually is a bad plot twist just because you think it is a bad plot twist, but in reality it is a good plot twist that adds alot of depth to the series and further promotes the concept of ninja's having to go through self sacrifice in order to maintain the greater good. Itachi is the greatest shinobi, because he sacrificed everything for the sake of the village. The love of his brother, his family, his village, his friends, his life, all for the village.
8.5. Little brother obviously turns into a psychopath criminal anyway, Itachi's plan fails pitifully.
God your a hater, all of this is out of his control.
9. Comes back to life (let his story die already)
Makes no sense
10. Is a cheap opponent and uses a stupid plot device technique to magically save the day against the opponent obviously much stronger than he is! Hooray! Itachi dies. Again.

---
Saw an alternative version of this thread and thought it was time to put it straight that Itachi isn't the perfect character you all make him out to be. Kishimoto may think that but Itachi himself states how he is not perfect and his whole life has been for the most part a failure. Time to stop being blind, every character is flawed and I think Itachi is particularly badly written.

All in all your just a stupid hater, all your critisms revolve around his "Plan" didnt work, as if his plan not working makes him a horrible weak person. But first let me reitterrate his plan to you. He only plan was to keep the village from finding out that the uchiha were killed because they were planning a coup de tat. That is the only reason he became a bad guy because if he was still a good guy people would question his motives for killing his village and eventually find out. His 2nd plan was to make sasuke strong, he knew that him being one of the few people alive with a sharingan would paint a huge target on his back, and thus he make himself sasukes rival and fueled his hatred in an attempt to make him want to get stronger, that way he could defend himself against those who would kill him for his sharingan like orochimaru and danzo. Both of these plans work to great success because 1) konoha doesnt know what happened and 2) Sasuke is still alive. Until any of those things change itachi's plan is still perfect.

can't say I agree with all your points, but yeah his plan for sasuke was stupid if he knew about the curse of hatred, sasuke had no chance of success. itachi tried to save the village, his brother, and his clan's name, and in trying to do it all he failed in all of them- sasuke turned into a psycho intent on destroying konoha and is soiling the uchiha's name further.

and yeah izanami is the worst thing to ever happen to the manga. first of all, izanagi is a sage technique which requires both uchiha and senju dna, so izanami should logically be the same. and secondly, itachi said that izanami was made to counter izanagi when the fact is that the only people who had both bloodlines were madara, obito and danzou, so it's backstory doesn't check out. thirdly, it's tailor made to defeat kabuto. personally it's the moment where i became a bit disenchanted with naruto, it was a move done purely to glorify itachi and made absolutely no sense. it would have been way better for sasuke to showcase the ems and his growth and having to fight his brother again. or kabuto to be taken over by oro when he's pushed too far by sasuke, that would be a good alternative to the other asspull of suigetsu just happening on oro's scroll.

Nope, you should be though if you think this is good writing.
Deus ex machinas everywhere. Yeah to he honest izanagi itself was a cheap trick but Izanami proves that ITACHI IS PERFECT AND SMART AND CAN BEAT ANYONE REALLY
