in a way, yes, but each gate is more powerful than the last and also, its power is built on the last gate, unlike the kaio ken which only multiplies the persons chi power by how ever many times they level up their kaio ken. thats why the 8th gate is more powerful than all the other 7 gates combined.

gate 1: full muscle potential released
gate 2: gate 1 + increased stamina
gate 3: gate 1 + gate 2 + increased speed and strength etc.


Kaio ken: chi x2
kaio ken x3: chi x3
kaio ken x4: chi x4
kaio ken x5: chi x5 etc.

in a way yes it is but the 8 gates are much more powerful and have a much more damaging effects on the body
