Garaa became Kazekage after 3 years? The guy killed plenty of other sand ninja i mean the guy obviously changed and all and is pretty pure hearted now but looking back it seems pretty weird that Garaa the HATED jinchuriki became Kazekage in part 1 the guy was powerful of course... But he didnt really do any outstanding feats imo his mom sand protects him he just controls it and pit himself to sleep so his jinchuriki can take over just to be stopped by Naruto the leaf jinchuriki

I see where you might think this. But from the manga standpoint. Gaara worked his toosh off and garnered trust from the village during the time skip according to Kankuro.

I suppose they could have made a filler arc to show this but it didn't really seem important.

Well at the beginning of shippuden it was clear some weren't still okay with the fact he was kage despite working his socks off to garner the trust of the villagers as implied by Kankuro.
