The 5th, 6th and 7th Hokage

You know what would've been cool? A chapter or two involving Tsunade stepping down as Hokage, appoint Kakashi and the latter appointing Naruto as his successor.

In chapter 699, it seemed as soon as everyone returned home, that Tsunade had stepped down from her position as Kage and appointed Kakashi as her successor. I can't imagine why so soon.


As far as Kakashi goes, Kage was a job he never seemed to want until recently. I guess Obito talked him in to it.
However it would've been nice to see Kakashi pass the torch to Naruto as a closer to manga. Naruto's status as a hero was cemented after he beat Nagato. With his escapades in the war stacking his credentials. Naruto cut through the red tape of "protocol" and jumped from Genin to Kage just like Gaara did.

I really wished they talked about that, and a comment above mentioned it should have been longer than one chapter which I completely agree.

Something like this, which as been going on for 15 yrs should have had a better ending rather than focus on pairings and their kids.
That could have easily been mentioned for the Next Gen. series coming out and people should have been aware of this with the clip at the end of The Last with the announcement of this new series.

Oh well though. Kishi just fell into a predicament where pairings became his main concern.

nope i really don't care about these useless details, Tsunade almost died in the war and she's an old lady after all, that's why she left!!! Kakashi probably took the job because he's a nice guy and Naruto was not old enough to do it just after her.

You know what lasted 11 chapters and was completely pointless to the story of Naruto? The Kaguya arc. Easily that time could've been better well spent on bringing a sense of closure to the manga better than what we got.

It was basically a sad attempt to add history to the story, while getting rid of the hole aka plot armor madara in the progress. Manga would have flowed better if kaguya was skipped, I dare say the Naruto vs Sasuke thing also, and then finished madara off as the final villain. Imo the ending tried to do a lot, too much, like: giving back story, father-son interaction, pairings, futures, changes in character, etc. However the ending didn't really pace itself well enough, everything was almost thrown to some climatic point instead of slowly wrapping things up. It was like kishi was going through some ending checklist or something. Although I can't expect anything else when I have thought Kishi rushed his work since part 1, which usually ended in lack of character development, missing answers, leftover questions, and unresolved topics that were introduced.

Exactly this. I remember when there was talk of a double chapter for the ending. Would have been great if 699-700 were both wrap-up chapters, and the epilogue was saved for a movie or to start the mini-series.

That's because the villagers were caught up in him being a hero/strong and not considering the intellectual side of being a hokage. It's why Kakashi was considered the only option by not only Shikaku, but Jiraiya, Gaara, Yamato and others as well.

But yes, Kakashi was just a seat warmer until Naruto became intelligent enough to take on the position, as he's never shown any interest in the position.

I'm still doubtful of someone with Naruto's personality making a good hokage. He's completely incapable of remaining calm in pressure situations, unless something drastically changed over the years, and seeing as he's not willing to rule with an iron thumb, like A was, his personality issues would likely come back to bite him if a bad situation were to ever arise..but that's unlikely given he could defeat everyone not named Sasuke in the Narutoverse in half a second.
