How exactly do they work considering chakra is the catalyst? Do hashirama create trees using chakra, then removes his chakra from them? or is his chakra always inside of the trees? if thats the case the shinju tree should've absorbed chakra from the land as well

This is different from say the X-Men, where someone like Storm controls lightning, whereas the Raikage or Kakashi creates lightning using chakra.

Can you drink the water that Tobirama creates? Will it nourish you? Or would you be drinking chakra-water which isn't water-water just mimics water...

Each element is physically created out of chakra. Once the chakra is gone, the element is gone (as when Kisame's doppelganger was defeated by Gai, and his ocean disappeared).

The difference between standard elemental jutsus and Mokuton, is that Mokuton is infused with Yang, which gives the wood life, so once the chakra is gone, the life energy remains.

Thats tough to grasp because what of the land jutsu the Doton shinobi use? They lift land, they create indentations and crevices. These things go back to normal?

And i think Yang accounts for Wood because Trees are living things. I find it hard to believe that a mountain created from Doton shinobi would crumble just because the chakra was removed

That's a good question!
I think it follows the basics of Einstein's equation (E=mc²) but with chakra as energy and elements as mass. Basically, they convert they chakra to create and/or control already existent mass.
Example: Kisame expels water from his mouth, activelly creating chakra based water while Zabuza insert his chakra in already existant water to manipulate it.
When the technique ends the mass or is disspated completely, in the case of Kisame, or returns to a state of non-chakra, in the case of Zabuza. Mokuton being the exception for being ifused with Yang element

Probably not. Same as Zabuza's if is still filled with chakra.
Doton acts mostly by reagruping already exsisting Earth, but in the case of Hiruzen, who spit out a Earth wall, after he died there were no signs of it (only of the mokuton)

Considering the fact that it's a manga I doubt kishi makes the jutsu disappear after the user is defeated.
