Madara Uchiha used the splitting technique that Muu used in chapter 558
There are many hints that allude to this, as well as the fact that it brought it up right before Madara’s appearance.
• Chapter 467 Page 10, “The wounds from my battle with the First Hokage, Hashirama, were too deep… Right now, I am powerless. I am nothing more than an empty shell of my former self.”
• Chapter 453 Page 17, “No… I can’t believe Nagato used his Rinne-Tensei like that. It’s supposed to be for me… What a betrayal…”
• Chapter 558 Page 6, “The main body splits into two parts, which means you don’t need hand seals so it’s faster, but the parts only have half the power… It will take some time to summon *that*, since he’s weakened now…”
Madara has battled the Third Tsuchikage in the past for a fact, and so this alludes to the notion that the Second Tsuchikage and Madara have most likely fought before. If this is true, then he must have copied the Splitting Technique from Muu(Techniques can still be copied without hand signs). Kabuto has explained how the Splitting technique not only dives yourself into two, but your power as well.
Once he had to face off with Hashirama at the Valley of the End, the battle must have reached to the point where Madara had to split, have “Madara” die in the public view by Hashirama, and go into hiding as Tobi. This would explain when Tobi claims he is, “A shell of my former self” after the Hashirama battle, not being strong enough to do everything he wanted.
Since the latest chapter(560), it has been shown that Madara has the Rinnegan. Tobi also claims to have given the Rinnegan to Nagato, which would mean that he would have to have previous possession of it. Tobi most likely didn’t have enough chakra to utilize the Rinnegan and bring back his other half with Rinne-Tensei, so why not pass it on to someone else. He gives it to Nagato, hoping that one day he will bring back Madara so he can fuse.
This is cut short as Nagato uses it on the Hidden Leaf instead, which leads to, “It’s suppose to be for me”. Tobi states this, but he is very much alive. I see this as Tobi actually stating, “Nagato was suppose to use Rinne-Tensei on my other half so we could fuse and then become full power once again.” Since any hope of rejoining with his other half had gone away, he decided to go with the “Moon-Eye Plan” instead.
