[Discussion] "That's gay"

So, recently, popular actor Jonah Hill was involved in a controversy where he referred to a paparrazi that was pestering him with "homophobic slurs", calling him a "******". He apologized for using the word, and the controversy seems to have quelled.
This got me thinking about when people say things like "That's gay", or refers to other people as "******" as an insult. And I was wondering, what's your opinion on people using these phrases? What do you think of people referring to things as "gay" when they mean "stupid"? Or of the use of the word ******?

Gay can mean vibrant and happy.
****** can be a bundle of sticks, or a cigarette.
These words aren't exclusive to homosexuals, so I think people should stop associating phrases like "You're a ******" or "That's gay" as an attack to the homosexual community. I personally don't see a problem with saying "Aw that's gay" meaning "That's stupid". As with the word ******, I also think we should stop associating that with the homosexual community. I see it as a generic, general insult, like saying mother****er, or ass hole.

Everyone says "that's gay" just cause he's an actor, doesn't mean he should be treated any differently than the millions of people who say it around the world. Sure he's suppose to be a role model, but he's human too. <- my opinion.

I don't think it's right to associate the word "gay" with other words that are considered negative. Saying "that's gay" in the the same context of saying "that's stupid" is like saying gay people are stupid. I don't think it's appropriate, IMO.

But it's really not though. Gay isn't exclusive to homosexual people, so why associate all uses of gay to homosexuals?
