Thank You...?

I tried the search function, but nothing came up when using the words Thank and You so i didn't know really how else to search for it. But i've been a member here for a bit now, and even to this day i still cannot see how Thanking a thread works. At first it had to do with your post or rep count, but that wasn't it. Then i though it had to do with THEIR post or rep count, but now i see i can thank people with thousands of posts and kumi, but can't thank people with 62 posts or something. Can someone please explain how this works. I know it gives more "reps" than a +rep, but can someone explain how you actually DO it? Thank you! (no pun intended.)

The "Thank You" button appear on threads that belongs to the "Fanfic" and "Questions and Suggestions" section (there are also few others but not sure)
It's kind of a +rep thing...

That´s not true.
Usually, Thank reps worth 5 points.
The worth of +reps from each member depends on their current post count and rep points.
